game play, the loss of crafting and persuasion skills, the anytime
character interaction and the well loved isometric view (not to mention
the ridiculous Darkspawn design)...
This games story is actually
quite good; yes it doesn't get epic until the last half hour, in what is
quite possibly the worst BioWare c*cktease since...ever, BUT we were
told this was a smaller scale story from the start. This story is a
tragedy, in the sense that Hawke, despite his rise to power, really ends
up losing everything in the end. It is in essence, an extended origin story, and background of how the world was just before it turned to sh*t...thanks to Hawke
I
think people are reacting strongly to this aspect of the game because
they have rarely, if ever, come across a CHARACTER driven story as
opposed to a PLOT driven story in a video game. This is certainly
BioWare's first attempt at such a thing, and I must say it was done
quite nicely. I feel its a testament to BioWare's writers that they can
put together something so different from their previous games, yet still
well done, in so short a development time.
I believe this
game, once properly patched and filled out with the DLC that was likely
removed from it, will be viewed with much kinder eyes in posterity.
That said, please, NO MORE dumbing down the gameplay...
