I'm only about 12 hours in but I've yet to have any good discussions with my companions. In DA:O you could stop and talk with your companions whenever you wanted. It feels weird traveling around with people I hardly know or talk to.

When they want to. :U Which is about... once every beginning of the act, another time when they question their beliefs, and the occasional special convo.

It doesn't bother me too much, though to be honest the one thing that did was the fact that I couldn't trigger a conversation with my LI whenever I wanted to in the Mansion.

When you interact they say misc things like, we shouldnt talk here. I'am pushing 20 hours and the only time i have been able to talk to them is in their homes. Dont know if this will help.

Yeah, I'm almost at 18 hours in and it seems like the only time you can talk to them is the beginning of an Act like Malja pointed out. Not a fan.

Neither am I. I mean, I like what it is. I just wish that wasn't all there was. I don't feel that personal with my party members as is, what with the huge time skips, this just doesn't help. Probably another rushed thing, tbh.

The Time skips dont really bother me so much as the fact that your love interest in the mansion basically says only one statement. I mean for me Merrill basically only talks about Sandal watching her or something. I wish I could just kind of initiate random conversations, at least to make it feel more natural. I don't really get the point of a LI moving in if they're just going to stand there.

Fenris doesn't even move in... hah... Must be something awesome about that ruined mansion.

I agree, the romance in this game is rushed and unnatural. So you mean to tell me that after 3 years we've only had like what, 2 maybe 3 conversations and you already love me? Chhhyeahno.

Well I think you're supposed to believe that you've had more conversations over the years than just the ones you witness in game. I mean it's not like they can make a dating sim or show you every single conversation you've had.

I mean Origins had an even worse problem I think, personally. If you played your cards right you could have certain characters in bed and a completed romance before you were even half way through the game.

It seems like they exchanged conversations for tons more banter. Personally i would have rarther had less banter and more conversations. And even if that was not the case i'd rarther have the choice to initiate conversations when i want than for when they ask me to see them. Just feels so disjointed that way one of the reasons i really liked DAO was because i could talk to characters and the more they got to know me the more they opened up now it just feels like you only get to talk to them for opening up a questline.

Hm. DG said it has the same amount of dialogue but it's spread out. I do trust him, and it does make sense. Before you had complete control over the relationship, and in most cases could complete it in two or three visits. Whereas this... a lot of the relationship building happens offscreen during the timeskips.

Dunno. I still don't really enjoy it. I see the difference, and it isn't what I prefer.

I agree with you 100%. It doesn't even have anything to do with romance specifically. The lack of conversation opportunities is quite noticeable and jarring. It seems they chose to put information into the codex instead of  having character interaction which is a real shame. The character interaction has been what had set BioWare apart from other games for me.

Seperating conversations like this also makes it so that the relationship lasts a bit longer. So you can't just get every single quest from them in act 1.

Personally, at least for the love interest you take into your home, I would have liked a bit more dialoge. But oh well I guess.

I don't mind so much that the pivotal conversations are more like quests now. But, I do miss being able to speak to my companions whenever I liked which certainly feels more natural and does more to draw you into the story. The interaction between the characters in DAO was one of the things that drew me in and made it a game to which I compare all others. This missing element is one thing that prevents DA2 from surpassing the original in superiority, IMO.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I do enjoy the mechanism to spread it out. I just wish that wasn't all there was. Keep that part, and give me the filling too type scenario.

I dislike that i can't talk to my companions whenever i would like to as, some don't even give me the act quests, like Fenrir. Not sure what to do about it but oh well.

I do wish you could have more casual chats with them. Like "so tell me about yourself" chats or "What are your interests?"

I was disappointed with the lack of convos but I got use to it. I prefer this over DAO where you could get max rep with a character before you hit camp at the beginning. I love dthe kiss scene though, I was like: woah... that was... big.
Also anders + dog convo = funny

The romance scene with Isabella and the first kiss with Anders were very nice. Wasn't expecting it to be so passionate and real. I wonder if the Fenril romance will be as fulfilling.

Oh I agree with you. I like that it's spread out, I think it makes the relationship feel more like a relationship. But yeah I just wish there was a bit more there as well. Mostly just some small talk maybe. I dunno. Varric must have some stories you know? And I was also expecting a bit more backstory from Merrill, maybe some stories as well.

I agree. The acts are so long that you lose a lot of the emotional connection with your party members. I chose Anders as my LI for my first playthrough. With the choice at the end, I could have gone either way without feeling nearly as bad as I would have in DA:O. Every time you talk to him when you're out in town, he's so distant. It completely kills any compassion that you would otherwise have for him. I stopped and watched my saved game from our first kiss before deciding. The codex talks about how you've been the only thing keeping him sane in the last years, meaning that you've been sharing many moments like this but there's nothing in the game to show that to you. You've dated him for six years and lived with him for three of those. There should be more than an entry in the codex to make that real.

Edited to add Anders is one of my favorite characters from Awakenings.  It's part of why I chose him as my first LI.  With the way that the Chantry treats mages, I've made it one of my goals to take down the Chantry wherever possible.  When he blew up the Chantry, I wanted an option to tell him he was my hero.  But...  Bioware put so much distance between you and Anders in Act 3 that I still waffled on telling him to leave because of all the pressure.
