I was kind of disappointed with the lack of convos between companions. I remember Mike Laidlaw said that the companions would become like an extented family to Hawke, but at least after my first playthrough I didn't really feel anything for most of them. The only real emotions I got towards any of the characters were when Bethany died in the deep roads and when Hawkes mom died. And of course I was very surprised at what Anders did at the end, and felt like I wanted to rip his head off.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I do enjoy the mechanism to spread it out. I just wish that wasn't all there was. Keep that part, and give me the filling too type scenario.

Yep...that is exactly the way that I feel about it, too.

You do end up talking to them a lot more during their actual quests then you would have in DA:O. Instead of it being confined to the camp more or less you tend to actually be doing something, and talking as it progresses.

I don't know, there's a balance that could be reached. I was definitely surprised when clicking on Alistair started a conversation about a rose he picked when we were in the middle of clearing the tower in DA:O, but I also felt the deficit of casual conversation in DA2.

I wasn't seeing any of the hilarious banter Alistair used to engage other companions in until I cycled Varric into my party. And mom... Posted Image

It is a bit better now, I'd say. I loved to talk with my companions everywhere but...after some time, it's always the same. After half of DAO you can get romance full, and all options explored. In Da2 you always have new stuff. Add a bit more talking like this and I would be thrilled!

Yep, they kinda blew it on this front. It's definitely more of a action RPG this time around, which is unfortunate. It's always nice to have the option to breathe more life into it with the conversations. And those who prefer just fighting things and keeping that side to a minimum, were able to do so anyway.
I click them once in a while just to hear updated banter but Fenris only ever says 'Hawke.' or 'We should move on.'

For my mage, Fenris is the most boring companion ever.

It's also annoying how when you've stacked up one or two conversations with them in their homes and you go and do them in succession, each cutscene is as if they haven't seen you in a while. Well, first of all, you've been going around with me and second of all, we just talked. I mean, these are small things but precisely why they'd be easy to avoid. Perfection is in the details.
