They don't need to package the game with Ritalin.
They need to package it with tissues...all the crying going on.

Or maybe some Skittles. Skittles make little kids pitching fits STFU, right?

So basically, what it comes down to is, people who like the combat in DA2 apparently enjoy console-like combat, more than the far more realistic combat of DAO.

Wasn't there a game called DAO on console?

Yup. All us console players are so dumb we just can't tell a bad thing when it's in front of us. We can barely tie our shoes in the morning.

Excuse me while I go drool in a bucket.

DA2's combat is akin to console combat.  That's a fact, as I methodically proved several times in this thread.

The rest of your post is just another attempt to deflect from that.

There was, however it was ported from the pc version.

DA2, however, was ported from the _console_ version. The difference can be seen between the two games.

I don't think the word "methodically" means what you think it means, Cap'm.

Nope, that doesn't work either.  (ie, being intellectually dishonest and pretending not to know what the point of this thread is)  Ironic, though, eh?

DAO had realistic combat that fit in-universe and added to the game.
DA2 has (so-called) console game combat, arcade combat.  That means twitchy, spazzy, hack n slash.

As I proved several times in this thread.  As you continue to try and ignore with your post.

I loathe DA2 and agree with all your points.

However, bodies DID explode in BG as well ;)

IDK.  Which mentality is mature, which is 'childish?'

One that tries to build rational arguments by working w/ facts, or the one that tries it's best to ignore them?

I am too dissapointed with combat in DA2 and I completely agree with what Grovermancer wrote.

I should have wait for the Witcher 2 and should not bought DA2. I expect the combat in the Witcher will be much more believable.

Yeah, but I don't recall them exploding from melee alone.

LOL, nice try.

BTW, you're already here, in the thread...  Care to show how those facts aren't facts?  Shouldn't be that hard.

A video game does not have perfectly realistic combat and physics? shocking. The 2-handers and dual-wield are ridiculous, yes, and should be changed, but the rest falls well within suspension of disbelief. What next, you will complain about people having HP bars because it's not realistic?

And DAO had realistic combat? Like when my archer fires once every 2 seconds, when my mage conjures apocalyptic doom out of nowhere, when my warrior rides a dragon's heads for a good minute just to give it a stylish killing blow?

Really, I can't name a single game that had realistic combat. Even if the animations made some sense (Mount and Blade, Oblivion), the fact you are a one-man army who can slaughter hundreds thanks to his massive damage and health bar while never having to worry about long-term repercussions to being beaten up endlessly makes this a game, not reality, and thank the Maker or whoever else for that.

Nobody is talking about "absolut" realism here. Grovermancer already posted this, however you ignore it. And DAO's combat not perfect; there is no "perfect" system. However, we do not like exaggerated combat like in JRPGs or console games or... DA2, as DAO is vastly superior

Yeah, you know what was super realistic? When an archer pulled out one arrow and it split in mid air into 50 arrows and hit every enemy on the field.

Know what else was super realistic? When my rogue disappeared in front of an enemies eyes into some black vortex. He didn't disappear in a puff of smoke, he just got wrapped up in nothingness, and apparently there was no magic involved. That was REALLY realistic.

Know what was fun, messere? Having a 2-handed warrior haul back his mighty blade for a full second and the rogue enemy not taking advantage by slipping a knife between his breastplate. Nah, he just stood there and took it. It was the only polite thing to do.

Another thing that was fun? Shuffling around your companions as they hacked an enemy to pieces because, well, there's so little room when you're in an open field, so you gotta shuffle like you're in a Wal-Mart on Boxing Day.

Your factity facts can not stand up to my quotity quotes, good sir!

As somebody pointed out earlier, it is not so much about realism, but about believability. I think that no one complained about the game not being PERFECTLY realistic.
But I would prefer if the combat moves in the game were based on real ones. I think that it would not only add to believability, but in the end it would also look much better.

I'm really tired with those "so called" and all the "console users are *insert derogatory comment*".

The gaming media isn't the problem here, the sterotypes about the targeted audience are.

I play on console, I want innovative, intricate, involving games. Not dumb down stuff as I'm supposed to gob up all day according to some...

Gamers of all media, unite under a common banner and fight for games that feed your brain and not the opposite!

Nope, sorry.  That tactic don't work either.  (meaning overly simplistic, sarcastic counters that have no content or debate points)

The 2-handers and dual-wield are ridiculous, yes, and should be changed, but the rest falls well within suspension of disbelief.

The Sword & Shield also uses incorrect animations during various techniques.  And anyone (ie, apparently ALL of them) that have the spazzing, hyper-fast, weightless weaponry and exploding corpses from melee hits and leaping across the battlefield in the blink-of-an-eye, are all wrong.   That means apparently all melee combat.

What next, you will complain about people having HP bars because it's not realistic?

Another non-statement, in lieu of an actual response.

And DAO had realistic combat?

Yes.  As I stated numerous times already.  Realistic on the whole, especially compared to this game.  And it fit well with the universe established.  Even stylized moves still fit the overall theme, still felt "real-enough," still looked like they came from an actual human being.

It never felt like you were watching an anime, or playing God of War.  Like DA2 does.

Like when my archer fires once every 2 seconds, when my mage conjures apocalyptic doom out of nowhere, when my warrior rides a dragon's heads for a good minute just to give it a stylish killing blow?

Again, already addressed.

BTW, didn't you know -- the Dragon Age universe has magic.  That means mages.  Who do magic.

It doesn't have twitch-spaz superhumans whipping and popping weightless weapons into rapidly spawning enemies that just explode from their sheer kewlness.  Well, I guess it does now.

Nope, sorry.

All of that was already addressed, in several posts, on page 1, and this page.  And by others as well.

Keep trying.

I call it "console," because of pretty much every game in the 3rd person action genre that has been popularized on console... they all look, feel, sound, and fight the exact same way, the same way DA2 is now going.

From the old LOTR games made for console, up through most all movie-adaptions, to the recent ones like God of War, Castlevania, Dante's Inferno, etc etc etc.

The same mind-numbing, anxiety-based, twitchy combat that's about reaction-time more than... well anything.

It's way quicker to call it "arcade combat" or "anime combat" or "console combat" than to try and explain all that.

I Underdtand what the OP is saying, however Dragon Age 2 is still enjoyable, maybe not the gameplay, but the story i found it very enticing.

I felt the combat wasn't 'Console Combat' i found it hack 'n slash, define console combat? you could gather alot from that, considering some of the most popular console games are FPS. I admit i did perfer the Dragon Age: Origins style of combat though, it was less hassle and it gave me more time to use my abilities rather than having to worry about spamming the attack button.

Yes the combat is less 'Believable', however the developers never hinted that this was going to be the case. The Devs said it was going to be a matter of you press a button and something cool will happen, although this may be true, but i didnt find myself having lot of fun watching the same attack animations being played out multiple times.

At this current moment, my friend is borrowing my Origins, but i can't wait to get it back and play it agan, i'm on my second playthrough of Dragon Age 2, but i just dont have it in me to haul myself through another 20+ hours of it.

If BioWare have plans for a Dragon Age 3 (I'm sure they do) I sincerely hope that they spend longer than 2 years on it, I hope they go back to the combat style they had in Origins, or at least something similar. BioWare tried something different and to be honest, it just isn't what alot of us wanted.
