I miss the ponderous and powerful swings of DA:O for two-handed weapons :(

In DAO, I installed the 2-H Speed mod, which scale increased 2-H swing speed as STR increased.

This is true to power/explosion training, and applies to large-scale power movements, like swinging a big-ass maul over and over and over.

When someone is able to effectively explain to me how a warrior is able to dual wield two long swords, fire multiple nocked arrows, and survive magical fireballs/sword wounds without a scratch on them, then I might consider some of these appeals to 'realism'. Until then, it's a style difference.

DA2 certainly features an over the top graphic style, but that's hardly a case for Origins being 'realistic'.

We all understand that DAO had more realism in its combat. But what does that prove exactly? Why keep bringing it up?

Wait -- so many have tried to deny, ignore, deflect, flat-out-lie...
...and now you're gonna say that?!?

LOL, just wow.

But but but...wait a minute.. from the sword fighting youtube videos I've been watching....the combat in DAO is more realistic right? And...um.. oh, that must mean that DAO has a better combat right? Or..no...man, this is making my heard hurt. I need to watch more youtube videos to make sure I picked the bestest combat for me.

I felt the same way as you, OP, since I was a big old school RPG fan. But like you, I had the exact same complaints and made a thread about it. But unlike you, I have given the game a shot and surprisingly have found the combat is almost literally the same as DAO, and yet, infinitely better. The combat plays out literally in the same way except...faster. Just get your head out of your ass for a moment and give it a shot; DA2's combat is miles above DAO. It is also very beautiful to look at and play with.

And thank god they got rid of the 'reused animations' from DAO combat. How many rogue skills were the exact same animation over and over.

Sorry, wrong.

I already beat it.  Made a thread here.

It's not the same as DAO.  Pretty much at all.  Already addressed countless times.

Just cause you say something doesn't make it true.  Take a breath.  I don't care about opinions.  Yours or mine.

Take your own advice, just because you say something, doesnt make it true, unless that doesnt apply to you and your right and everyboy else is wrong. <_<

The thing is people can like this combat over the old combat, obviously the devs felt that the old combat got enough  grief that they changed it for their own reasons

What does what others have said have to do with me, genius?

I want to hear from you what you wish to PROVE with this thread. Don't dodge the threat.

DA:O's combat is in no way realistic. Regardless of my preferences between the two games, I'll concede that the consensus favors Origins overall. It's flat out wrong, however, to say that DA2 did not at least improve the combat system.

Complain about all the "unrealistic" jumps and flips you can pull off in DA2. Then go play a rogue in Origins, and watch the exact same backstab animation ten thousand times.

Lol, wow, grover. You just dislike the game alot don't you? Not only have you come and made this thread which serves no purpose than for you to keep spamming your bullet points, but it also proves nothing. Isn't this just flat out trolling?

Do you think you are actually accomplishing anything? Is your internet-the-oh-so-eye-opening campaign working? You truly are the knight of justice!

LOL, thanks for the bump.  I guess if you can't counter my points, you can do every other possible tactic, to know trying to get me to not respond to others' responses.

That's alright though; I'm not afraid of the facts.

Way to dodge again. Or are you just that daft?

I don't care what is more realistic or not. In fact, i'm 100% certain DAO is more realistic. Okay... simple enough for you to understand?

How about you answer my questions and rebuttle my words? Because all you have done is dodge them and come off very very foolish, lol.

Isn't it also a fact you have no..argument?

There's nothing to answer, because you're not saying anything.  You're just an angry dude, venting.

If DAO's combat was more realistic -- which is was, and that was intentional by the dev's -- which it was, the debate is over.

Now it's only a matter of either people like more realistic combat, or they do not.

LOL, what was your "point?"
Other than trying to get me to not respond to posts in my own thread?
Which you keep posting in.

Lol, not an angry dude venting. If anyone was to be given that portrayal, it'd most certainly be you.

We, all the credible ones and non-trolls, can agree DAO's combat was more realistic.

What was my point? My point was to show everyone that your thread serves no purpose, and proves nothing that isn't already inherent. And that you are a bitter troll.

Keep in mind that because something happens inside your head does not necessarily mean that it agrees with reality.

Fortunately, it does agree w/ reality.

Though some folks apparently can't accept that.

Don't need to.  There's this thing called "reality-testing."  Compare w/ outside sources.  I already have on this topic.  For many years.  (have you?)

That's how I know the combat animations in DAO were largely realistic, that statements like "DA:O's combat is in no way realistic" are factually wrong, and that such innacurate and baseless statements were already proven wrong in this very thread.

That would depend: do you consider dual wielding long swords realistic? Do you consider stealth animations/mechanics realistic? If so, I highly recommend that you redefine 'reality' into something more logical.

Though interestingly, Musashi, towards the end of his competitive career, supposedly abdicated using 2 full-sized katana, one in each hand.

What about cloth-wearing mages being able to live through blows from a 2-handed weapon? And soldiers surviving giant fireball explosions while burning through their armor? Can we safely put these into the category of 'unrealistic' as well?

Also, note the statement I was originally responding to:
"DA:O's combat is in no way realistic"

While certain moves being stylized has already been addressed numerous times in this thread, it is amusing how folks pick and choose the more extreme and stylized moves for there arguments, while ignoring the whole of moves that are very believable...
...all the while apparently ignoring the other combat in question, where people move in super-human speeds w/ weightless weapons leaping across the room in an instant to strike an enemy so hard it splatters.

Swallow a camel, strain at a gnat.
