So I am playing a mage on Normal. I hit the dragon on the deep roads expedition and it took me many reloads to finally kill it. With only one party member left standing with little health. Just luck. Then I got to the giant rock who attacked me and had that massive red light of death. First time it hit me I didnt run and well died. After that I lowered difficulty to casual, then realized I could run behind beams for protection.
My question is this, dragons always kick my ass. Every single time. I reload at least three times, while playing normal.
What is a good mage build to counter dragons?
I always bring me (mage), aveline, and a rogue into battle. then before carver became templar him, now I bring merrill. so what would be a good build for my mage to counter dragons? tired of getting my ass handed to me every battle

Horror and Petrify are both very useful for disabling the dragon, and if you have either of those on Merrill, too, you can chain one after the other for elongated stuns.

if you dont actually need damage from him turn him into a SH/creation build when you know your gonna fight a dragon because i did that against the high dragon and it was pretty good for revival and healing

The Mature Dragons were rather underwhelming in my opion. They're vulnerable any form of control, so petrify, horror, upgraded crushing prison, etc. will allow you to smack them around like a redheaded stepchild. The High Dragon was fun, more of a long fight, than a hard one though. Hardest part was keeping Isabela away from the buisness end of the dragon lol. Silly Isabela, rogues do it from behind!
Also forget about the silly SH tree, the revival grenades are what you really want, Mytharal's Blessing or something like that, those are epic, its like blowing someone up, in reverse.

Cold does some really good dmg. Winter's Grasp can get get some high dmg points. When I faught the Mature Dragon in the Deep Roads I was gettign 400+ with that spell. They are defintiely vulnerable to cold dmg.
Also Cone of Cold is really good way to slow it down or hit a group of dragons.

Cold spells work, Horror is also good. Walking Bomb also helps too, if u use it right.
Also make sure u bring the right party if ur having trouble. Aveline and Anders are quite helpful.
