All the threads I can find say to turn on "force stereo".  This does not work.

One such thread says to edit dragonage.ini file to force stereo on.  This file does not exist on my computer.

This is irritating as I am at a huge cut scene and don't want to proceed without knowing what is said.  And, no, "turning on subscripts" or whatever it is called is not an acceptable option.

By the way, I cannot find the search function here, so I had to wade through pages of posts to find ones that might be useful.

Also, by the way, it took me approximately 30 minutes to figure out why I could not post, and to get that fixed.  This involves registering my game.  How to do this is not obvious even once you figure out it needs to be done.

Furthermore, "You do not meet the requirements to post in this forum."  is an absolutely useless message.  Why, pray tell, can I not post?  What requirement is missing?  Thank god there was an old post at the old forum site that at least lead me to the right direction.  Thank god for Google, that is, not the "help" message above.

Ok, found dragonage.ini, evidently the Win7 search-and-find function...leaves something to be desired. Had to download a 3rd party search utility just to find a file with a given name.

Played with the stereo and VODisabled, no changes. Also, these reflect the options screen, whether I change it in the .ini or through the config utility or the in-game interface.

[AudioOptions]
SoundDisabled=0
SFXDisabled=0
MusicDisabled=0
VODisabled=0
UseStereoSound=1
MusicSystemDisabled=0
SoundFXVolume=10
VOVolume=10
MusicVolume=10
CutsceneListenerRadius=1
ListenerPositionOffset=0.5
StreamPriorityBoost=0
SubtitlesLevel=0
UserSetSubtitlesLevel=0

Are you on Steam? If so, Patch 1.01 is expected to fix an issue with dropped VO for Steam users. The patch is currently available in a Beta state but, unfortunately, Steam does not support beta patches. The patch seems to be behaving well in the wild, however, so we're working to make it final and available to Steam users ASAP.

No, I am not on Steam. I bought it at Walmart on the day of release. Is there a PC download patch that contains the fix?

I just struggled through two Revanants & friends on Nightmare to place the thingie on the Elf altar, and really wanna hear what you-know-who has to say. :)

I'm having this same issue.  The incidental street conversations drop the first line (so they seem very random), and most of my conversation scenes drop the NPC's first line, skipping me directly to the wheel.  I've spent the past few days googling and searching forums for a fix, but no luck so far, though I'm not the only one who seems to be having this issue.

Cheers!

P.S.  I wouldn't care if it weren't such an awesome game, btw.  Thank you for not just giving us a superblight and two archdemons stapled together.

It magically "got better" due to one or more of these things I did. I did not narrow it down by trying.

1. Rebooting.
2. The speaker cable was loose. It's possible for some reason the voice was coming out only one speaker, and that channel (L or R) was losing contact? I was hearing some sound.
3. Turning back on the force stereo. I don't think this was it as I never touched it earlier and the game worked fine on the initial install with defaults.

YMMV, but if the "force stereo" trick doesn't work, check your speaker cables everywhere and do a reboot.
