So...  how do you trigger them?

I recruited him in Act 1 and helped him clear out the mage's mansion.  I had a conversation quest with him in Act 2, and found the gifts for him in Acts 2 and 3.

But that's it.

Any idea what went wrong?

In Act 2 travel to the mountain with him in the party, and you'll get attacked by Slavers, which opens up his Act 2 quest.  I'm pretty sure just by doing Bitter Pill will trigger Alone in Act 3

Yeah, I had the same problem!  I didn't trigger the "Bitter Pill" quest in Act II so now I cannot do anymore quests for him in Act III apparently?  Lame.

It's his act 2 quest. Basically travel with him in your party to anywhere outside kirkwall. It should proc. He gets information in his Act 2 quest that leads to his Act 3 one.
