Hi i love Dragon age but i am concerned about a problem i noticed with the game and tool set.
I dont like that you want to harvest content from my computer. And i am especialy dissapointed about the tool set wanting to open an SQL server in my computer. Are you offering the security and protection to this open port or ports? Why cant i use the tool set with out Having this SQL server set up to access a so called "data base" isnt the tool set complete? Why do you want to harvest game related data from my computer? Are you also wanting to scan my hard drive? I have modded Neverwinternights Morrowind Oblivion Fallout.  why so intrusive?

It seems to me that you aren't entirely sure what a database is, and this is making you uncomfortable.

A database is just a collection of data ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Database ), and SQL is just a type of computer language used to access data from a database. SQL does not mean that it is an internet server opened for business. I can't vouch 100% on the security setup for this database, but I don't think you have much to fear. If something did get access to the database, they shouldn't have any access to the rest of the machine.

The reason this toolset installs a database like this is to store its information. Databases are very useful for handling a lot of information, and Dragon Age has a lot of data. Not all of the files the toolset uses are stored in the database, like art resources (level layouts, head morphs, textures, etc), but many of them are. Areas, item templates, scripts, and creature templates are some of the things that it does store in the database.

As for "harvesting game related data", I'm not sure what you mean. If you're referring to the game's posting of your in-game progress (which isn't toolset-related), BioWare thought this was a cool feature. It's not intended to maliciously steal information from your computer, but to share your game experience with friends. If I recall correctly, there should be a setting somewhere in the preferences to turn off this automatic behaviour.

I know I didn't address everything, but does that help?

What Ranlas said. Also just because you install a database does not mean anyone can access it. There are very specific steps you would have to take to make the database visible and accessible to the internet. The cool part of this is that if you take those steps, it would make working with other people on a large mod that much easier. But this is not done for you, so there is no risk involved, and there is no data harvesting going on with the toolset.
