Kill everything around him, would be my advice. Then have your team work on him together.

In a duel (rogue) I almost brought him down to about 30%. Then he guzzled a pot and was nearly 100% again.
Is there a way to disrupt him and nullifiy the potion-effect?

I ask this because I've often seen "disrupted" when I wanted to drink a pot.

Use Aveline, give her alot of Cunning, make her taunt him. And she'll survive pretty well with a healer while your party goes around clearing the room (did it on Hard)

I was never even offered a duel. I believe Arishok just asked me how I would resolve it, and I said something like "On the battlefield" as my option, and he said "I agree" or whatever, and it was just his group versus mine.

There has got to be a way to kick this guys *****.

I'm on casual and he's three shotting me.

My rouge is duel blades, anyone else know how to kill him quickly?

I had a bit of trouble on my mage with this duel as well. One on one is hard when you are used to having a party of four. Took me three tries to take him down. The dog didn't appear to be any help, but whenever he got ready to use charge I would run around behind a post. LOL. Thankfully potions helped but that buzzard used potions too. I was like "What?! LOL

From what I could tell he always drinks 3 pots. Tried to throw a flask at him to stun him during it and it didn't work. Took me like 45 minutes to beat him in a duel with my rogue after like half a dozen tries.

Oh interesting! haha. I had everyone attack me and my party and only had Anders in my group who cannot get the talent Spirit Healer, or will not get it don't know. So I was stuck with only a heal and potions. With my mage I took him out with Aveline, Varric and Anders and myself as a mage. I kept him down on the platform and made sure I first took out their Saarabas before anything else.
As for one to one, I have no idea as I didn't get that fight.

Spoiler: The one on one duel only becomes an option if the artifact is returned.

You refuse the duel or just say anything, he useally attacks you all out. The duel is only if you earned his respect and invoke it.

Not at all. I dueled him with my spirit healer (it was a LONG fight) and I hadn't gotten his respect.

SPOILER too..

AHA Isabela ran away with it when I told her we needed to return it. I could have protected her, but she ignored my way of thinking I believe ^_^

She's a brat that way hehe. She runs with it when you are left to fight the people who had it no matter what, I think but...

LOL, I'm not telling!

Like virtually every single fight in the game, most of his attacks can be avoided, but that requires you to take active control of your character and not just "mash buttons".

While he does drink potions, he seems to have a finite supply of them and will eventually stop drinking them.

You can easily kite him for the entire length of a potion cooldown if need be.

He's less about being a hard fight and more about being a long one since you can only hit him a few times before dancing away to avoid his attacks coupled with his using pots.

If you're not dueling him and simply fighting the entire room, like any fight involving the Qunari, kill the mages first.

Remember, kiting is a stupidly effective method of waiting for your potion/skill cooldowns against any melee characters.

Use all your abilities on him, then just kite him till you take a stamina potion and the abilities cooldown then repeat. A duel wield rogue is especially effective using this method since you can dodge his forward attacks by using backstab then have time to use a few more abilities before he actually turns around to attack again and then run away. It's not the most honorable a method to defeat a foe but effective none the less.

I got the opportunity of duel because Fenris was in my party. He "convinced" the Arishok to "respect" me, although my rogue is female.

This fight was definitely the hardest one thus far. I keep getting my arse handed to me as well, and every time i think I'm making progress... he quaffs a health potion. How many does he have and where the hell is he storing them?

I can see that this is going to be a very long fight of bob and weave as well as hoping he runs out of health potions sometime today.

I don't mind the challenge this fight is giving on Normal, but it would be nice to be able to go back to a previous autoSave (only have one manual save) so I can do the other quests first in hopes that I gain more levels and better gear to pwn this guy. *le sigh*

Well, I beat him easy on normal. My tank spec basically made it so my health never dropped without being able to recover.

Not for me.  Isabella stole it, which caused the duel in the first place.

I didn't even recruit Isabella (intentionally on this playthrough) and I still had the option to duel him.

From what I read though if Isabella does bring the relic back and you choose to protect her it leads to a duel regardless of other circumstances?

The same here. When he asked me in the final conversation how I would solve the problems, I had the option to answer "I bring back the book", but nevertheless, he became hostile but agreed to the duel after Fenris' intervention.

I got lucky...he glitch out on me several times using my rogue with blades, he would charge, I evaded, swing a couple of times then he got stuck just standing there, so I was backstabbing him many times... I dont think that could have happened only to me...

Tediousness defines this particular boss. Kite, kite, hit, kite, kite, hit, rinse, repeat... boring as hell. I don't think I could sit through that on Nightmare...

At least in Origins when you could go 1 on 1 with Loghain you could pick another party member if you thought you couldn't handle him personally. Otherwise letting Avaline at him would be a simple widdle-down boss.
