Is there a way to disrupt him and nullifiy the potion-effect?
I ask this because I've often seen "disrupted" when I wanted to drink a pot.

There has got to be a way to kick this guys *****.
I'm on casual and he's three shotting me.
My rouge is duel blades, anyone else know how to kill him quickly?
I had a bit of trouble on my mage with this duel as well. One on one is hard when you are used to having a party of four. Took me three tries to take him down. The dog didn't appear to be any help, but whenever he got ready to use charge I would run around behind a post. LOL. Thankfully potions helped but that buzzard used potions too. I was like "What?! LOL

From what I could tell he always drinks 3 pots. Tried to throw a flask at him to stun him during it and it didn't work. Took me like 45 minutes to beat him in a duel with my rogue after like half a dozen tries.

As for one to one, I have no idea as I didn't get that fight.

You refuse the duel or just say anything, he useally attacks you all out. The duel is only if you earned his respect and invoke it.
Not at all. I dueled him with my spirit healer (it was a LONG fight) and I hadn't gotten his respect.

AHA Isabela ran away with it when I told her we needed to return it. I could have protected her, but she ignored my way of thinking I believe

She's a brat that way hehe. She runs with it when you are left to fight the people who had it no matter what, I think but...
LOL, I'm not telling!

While he does drink potions, he seems to have a finite supply of them and will eventually stop drinking them.
You can easily kite him for the entire length of a potion cooldown if need be.
He's less about being a hard fight and more about being a long one since you can only hit him a few times before dancing away to avoid his attacks coupled with his using pots.
If you're not dueling him and simply fighting the entire room, like any fight involving the Qunari, kill the mages first.
Remember, kiting is a stupidly effective method of waiting for your potion/skill cooldowns against any melee characters.

I can see that this is going to be a very long fight of bob and weave as well as hoping he runs out of health potions sometime today.
I don't mind the challenge this fight is giving on Normal, but it would be nice to be able to go back to a previous autoSave (only have one manual save) so I can do the other quests first in hopes that I gain more levels and better gear to pwn this guy. *le sigh*

Not for me. Isabella stole it, which caused the duel in the first place.

I didn't even recruit Isabella (intentionally on this playthrough) and I still had the option to duel him.
From what I read though if Isabella does bring the relic back and you choose to protect her it leads to a duel regardless of other circumstances?

The same here. When he asked me in the final conversation how I would solve the problems, I had the option to answer "I bring back the book", but nevertheless, he became hostile but agreed to the duel after Fenris' intervention.
