For me the hardest part was conserving potions. I had forgotten to buy more before starting the quest, so I had to kite him around as a mage on Nightmare. Fun times. Fun times.

I ran around in a circle stopping at the pillars . When he came around i pommel struck him and hacked away. Rinse repeat..I felt like a chicken, but I won.

Haha I did the exact same thing when my wariors life was low and my potion was still cooling down.

Use Decoy. When I used it on him, he glitched and just stood still for like 60 seconds. You can hammer on him during that time.

Bring the puppy to help. :]

"Interesting.."

I'll have to keep this one in mind when my time comes. Image IPB

This fight is bugged, too.
Once, when he did this impale thing, he pushed my rogue through the ceiling to the floor above, kind of a balcony. No way to get down again, only solution: reload.
Damn, he was down to about 30%, when this occured.

My mage just kited him and spammed winter's grasp to freeze him and just hit him, rinse and repeat. The dog also helped.

I got the duel option and chose it when Isabella returned with the Artifact and I defended her. The duel was epic

i challenged him to duel 1vs1 as a rogue with 2 daggers and i pwned him, easy fight, if u want a strategy that makes u win 100% every time for him in 1vs1 its this- but might take time if u dont have assassination-: when it starts attack him a lil then do a circle around the 2 pillars in the room and assassinate, then run while waiting for cd to finish and repeat, if u get hit a few times use a health pot after he has charged, and if u run out of stam, then use stam pot, at me he died after 2 min of this tactic (i took advantage of him stunning himself with charge and used backstab and stuff) thats how i did it :D

My bet was "the duelist", because of that charge ability cross the battle field. But for some reasons it worked perhaps one or two times out of 10.
The same with "the gauntlet"-ability: I swear, he laughed, when I tried it.

That is frigging awesome. Gotta roll a Rogue just to see that.

On topic though, my Force/Blood Mage with Despair, Shackling Hex, Dessicate, and Winter's Blast totally slapped him silly. He's stumbling and writhing all the time - really feel sorry for the big guy that he has to die in such a terrible way. He skewered my Lady Hawke once or twice though, which is kinda hot.

Get close in melee range, once he is next to you, run away, then he will start swinging and just do whatever you want, rinse repeat. Only thing you need to watch out for is his impale attack since it comes out fast. Just make sure you are at full health and you should be fine.

If you are very careful you wouldn't get hit once.

Summon the dog, run around pillars to hit him with a powerful talent, wait for talent to recharge while dog attacks him, rinse and repeat. worked with my warrior and he kept getting skewed by the Arishok.

I was a mage - I thought the fight was the only weak thing about the whole of Act 2 and just badly designed.

I won it easily enough but it involved a lot of running away while I waited for my "freezing"/slow down talents to re-charge, then hitting him with a barrage of attacks while he's held, then running again while I wait for the re-charge.

For about 15 minutes... yawn.

But still, it was worth it to keep Izzy in my team. She may suck in a fight but she's amusing.

That duel was heinous on my AoE mage. The character was set up to exploit the multiple "Staggered" states Carver/Fenris dish out. 1-on-1 with Arishok and my Chain-Lightning and Maker's Fist do nothing. . .

The arishok was only 10 gamer points!? That was almost as obnoxious as the High Dragon. What a sh!tty boss.

I didn't have too much trouble with him with my Blood Mage just played keep away till he did his charge attack and then hit him with either a cold spell or crushing prison to and just kept using the upgrade Graverobber to stay alive. helps to have the dog ^_^

Am I the only one who, as a human female, decided that the most sensible thing would be to tell the Arishok to go F himself for wanting a fair duel?

If you need a few seconds you can use the combustion bomb (stun and burn) then a few attacks and assassinate, it takes out about a third of his health.

That was the most sensible thing, considering almost every time he used his cross slash he hit me from across the room, yet a problem with Humans is thier pride tends to get the better of them.

what spec are you.. I was duelist and used my vendetta to move behind him and hit and viper fangs and exploding dagger. its about moving around him and picking him apart. a rouge will not stand toe to toe with a tank like him. stick and move. if you have evade use it.

Yea there's a bug with Decoy I think, he was crushing my rogue in a standup fight, but if you pop decoy he seems to bug out or something, he kinda stands there for 20 seconds or so after the decoy dies, occasionally attacking nothing. Some of his swings are AOE cleaves though, so you're not completely free to just swing away, but it's still pretty easy to run in and out and whittle him down with decoy, the dog is a big help too. I challenged him to single combat but didn't get the achievement for it apparently, oh well.

I managed to do it on Nightmare with a 2 handed warrior. I'll tell you, it was dumb. It took forever, it wasn't even a little bit fun, he was a melee AOE that acts as a ranged attack that tosses you on the ground and procedes to run over you before you can do anything and your attacks deal next to no damage. It was annoying, tiresome, time consuming, potion-consuming and the last quarter of the fight I ran out of potions for I never would've thought it would be so unbearable and I had to kite for nearly forever until Devour recharged.

Soon as I was done with it I regretted not turning the difficulty down. Stupid little fight. Makes me understand perfectly why they wouldn't put in a Nightmare Achievement, when the game is so unbalanced at certain points.

Really, I have the impresion that most of the boss fights are like this atm:
Run, hide, swallow pots, hit, run, hide...rinse and repeat.
At least they're like this if your character is a class without a certain skillset.

That's not a complaint, because I like the game by itself a lot. But bossfights should be more than a struggle against a heap of HP, which resists anything and hits for 100% all the time, unless we invest a lot of time to run, kite, swallow pots.. I start to repeat myself
