will get you killed, your blood will boil and your cells explode.

sooooo, why do half my team in ME 2 walk around in thier underwear in vaccum wearing only a breathing mask??!!

ok the skin tight cloths I can undersatnd (mechanical pressure to counter the effects of vaccum) BUT why does Miranda for example show her eyes/face/hair in vaccum or hazzardous envirmonts and still live, or jack XO ??!!

WHY?

because biowae's budget ran out
or
they didn't want to hide pretty female faces (I really think someone has wet dreams about miranda back at Bioware HQ)

A game has no need to imitate reality in every single way.

I beg to differ. imitation of reality is the first step to making an experience that a player can really lose himself in.

If there are moments of LOL MAGIC in a sci fi setting, I start gagging. I prefer my women with helmets, not long wavy hair.

Meh, I assume it's simply a matter of their kinetic barriers and shields keeping them safe. Not to mention most of the squad who run around with exposed skin are either biotics, Thane, Miranda, whichever Asari you choose, and Jack, or are der über Krogan.

Contrary to popular belief, direct exposure to the vacuum of space won't kill you. Direct exposure to all the EM radiation flying around out there, without any atmosphere filtering it, is a problem, though. However, none of this changes the fact that the squad outfits in ME2 are incredibly stupid.

You won't freeze because there's nothing for the heat to be transferred to.

2- Miranda.
3- Mordin
4- Jacob.
5- grunt (the DLC armor)
6- Zaeed.
7- Samara
8- Kreios (spelling?!)

list of the ones that will live:

1- Shepard
2- Tali
3- Garrus
4- Legion <3

Grunt's arms are exposed in his standard armour and loyalty armour as well actually. Not sure where you're getting Mordin from though, he wears a full helmet and his outfit covers the rest of him.

real life ain't hollywood... the difference in pressure is not such as to kill you or even damage exposed skin

the danger of exposed skin in space isn't vacuum it's the lack of an atmosphere to protect you from radiation

*edit* got beaten to the punch

the dumbness of the outfits is using them in combat, not exposure to space

Perhaps the characters in Mass Effect 2 posses the Space Marine's Melachrome Organ (radiation reactive skin that helps against radiation) and their Mucranoid Organ (seals the skin in a waxy substance to protect the skin against radiation and the vacuum of space)?

I'd consider it a moot point in combat though given the setting. Shepard runs around in full armour and he's
no safer than Jack is, it's their shields and barriers that really count, once those are down you're dead in seconds if you don't take cover, and my sniper rifle regularly slices through those helmets the Blue Suns and Eclipse are wearing like they were paper mache. And in Thane's case his chest has to be exposed because of his condition, being protected from bullets won't do a whole lot of good if you drop over dead because you can't breath.

Do you remember when you got your last hickey and how it made your skin look? Standing in a vacuum without protection is like having that effect on your whole body x 1000.

That argument also sucks by the way.
Apart from being applicable to almost everything, Mass Effect is a Sci-Fi game. That means they are trying to be scientifically correct here as proven by the codex and its ton of entries about how Mass Effect Fields, Ezo and all the other technology works. There is no excuse to ignore something so simple for fashion reasons. Especially considering that we see the other characters run around like that all the time already, so a change of appearance would have made sense even from that point of view.
It also looks silly when people run around in space with little transparent masks instead of proper armor/suits.

The problems with claiming it is shields, is that shields are tuned to only impact fast moving stuff with a high kinetic energy. That's why you don't get stuck on the floor or in doorways while moving around, and why punches can go through them (at least in the books).

True, but it works well enough for me to suspend my disbelief if I assume that to be the case. I can believe blue skinned alien women can create blackholes with their minds and reproduce by doing a Vulcan mind meld, not difficult for me to believe the shield technology can protect you from exposure to the elements or lack thereof.

Well i guess Bioware shouldn't have made an own codex entry about Kinetic Barriers then in which they specifically state that they don't protect from surrounding elements like toxin temperature and radiation.

From the ME Codex...

Kinetic barriers, colloquially called "shields", provide protection against most mass accelerator weapons. Whether on a starship or a soldier's suit of armor, the basic principle remains the same.
Kinetic barriers are repulsive mass effect fields
projected from tiny emitters. These shields safely deflect small
objects traveling at rapid velocities. This affords protection from
bullets and other dangerous projectiles, but still allows the user to
sit down without knocking away their chair.
The shielding afforded by kinetic barriers does not protect against extremes of temperature, toxins, or radiation.
