Aren't vaccum's cold? wouldn't you freeze?

No vacuum is empty it's neighter cold or Hot because there is no matter, if matter is cold in vaccum it will stay cold, if it's boiling it will remain so.

Dosent they all have barrier when they get out in the vacuum. I assumed that was what was protecting them

Thane's chest is exposed, but this is by necessity. Covering his chest would make his medical condition worse and shorten his lifespan, that's the reason I can't bare to use his DLC outfit. I've learned over the years that there are different levels of nonsense when it comes to scifi. You've got things like this which don't stand out that much until you actively start thinking about them, but can be handwaved easily enough thanks to the in universe technology like kinetic barriers and mass effect fields. Then there are things that make a bit less sense and stand out more, Shepard's body surviving atmospheric reentry, or driving around in a hovertank equipped with an onboard VI on a planet currently under the control of a rogue VI capable of taking control of other VI's. And then there are things that just make no sense at all, we've got the equipment to fix up Shepard's face but not Garrus'? I find that in general you'll enjoy yourself more if you try to accept the handwaves and ignore the rest unless they're something that effects the plot itself.

the whole Thane thing is kinda... weird, this isn't the 1800's, i'm sure they can build a special suit for anybody

yes it's the barrier that slowly damages during the Haestrom mission, technically speaking i suppose that can protect them in space as well from the increase in radiation but i doubt it would last forever

Um...

your wrong. Heat is transmission of energy. Space has a temp of roughly 2-4 Kelvin, close to absolute zero. If your in the sun, it can get up into the tens of thousands.

So yes, it is frikkin cold in space, and no there is no excuse aside from "PRETTY FACE!"

A game has no need to imitate reality in every single way.

That's why Bioware gets away with it. People go "meh, doesn't matter" and next you know you'll find you're playing virtual micky mouse club with pink super soakers and ewoks fighting over whether barbies should wear candypink or sugarpink.

How come absolutely NO ONE here knows the term 'slippery slope'? And as has been mentioned before, Bioware is laughing in the faces of their customers at all the budget cuts they can make on actually making a good game for everyone, rather focusing on the part of the market that'll swallow everything as long as there's shiny effects and exposed flesh.

Ugh, got me ranting.

Anyway, in a game that's supposed to be immersive Bioware sure knows how to take all the immersion out of it. If it's not the 'skin in space' then surely the 'smash whiskey against helmet'.

Oh, and of course, pandering to as many people as possible rather than doing something actually tasteful: http://www.nerfnow.com/comic/481

The magic of the PG13 rating. And here i was thinking Bioware was Canadian >_>

There are people who would argue that the romance in Mass Effect 2 was actually more tasteful for not showing anyone naked. I'm not one of them mind you, just saying.

space being empty is against the kinetic theory. most of space isn't actually empty, it has scant gasses that are very thin, but are still matter. heat-stealing matter. Galactic Leftovers, if you will

Of course, there's a fine line. Still, there's "tasteful and respectful" and there's "PG-13 and hilarious".

well blowing people's face off with sniper rifles and levitating them in the air as they burn and scream to death is far worst ot me than naked people, but what do I know....

modern society is sick sick SICK

all games with violence should be 18+

we "protect" our kids from sex and love making but we let them watch death and violence ??!! if I ever have kids I will explain sex for them as soon as they have the brain to understand it, and I sure as hell won't let them play shooting games until they can pay for them.

rant over <_<

And I'd agree with you on this, at least as far as sex and nudity being a lesser evil than violence. I grew up playing Mortal Kombat games, which was the GTA of the time, and I turned out just fine. A bit anti-social and harboring resentment towards most of the human race, sure, but that's more to do with the people I've met than any game I've ever played.

That's not 100% true. Matter in a vacuum will slowly radiate heat until it reaches absolute zero (providing there's no other heat source around).

Their shields are just that, work's against the vaccum of space via the magic of sci-fi.

I'm rather confused, here. I can see the points about them not wearing armour in combat being a bit daft as valid, but...

When, in the game, do they EVER expose bare skin to a vacuum? Do any missions in ME2 actually take place in a vacuum? 'Cos I can't for the life of me think of any that do, and I'm properly confused here.

EDIT: Damn, disregard everything I just typed, I just remembered the heretic base. It's my age, the memory's going, I tell ya...

None that I can think of, areas without atmosphere or with hazardous ones sure, but I can't really think of any situation where they're actually walking around in space. And I still say the armour in combat thing is a moot point, out of all the people without a set of actual armour only Kasumi isn't a biotic, how come nobody shouts about forcing her to wear a suit of bulky armour? It's always Jack, Miranda, and the Asari of your choice.

The first game seemed to care about it more. For example, almost everyone had full body suits.

Almost everyone in the first game were also professional combatants.

Wrex: Krogan mercenary.
Garrus: Turian cop.
Kaidan, Ashley, and Shepard: Human military.

Liara and Tali were the only two who weren't military. Contrast with your crew from ME2.

Tali: Quarian Laura Croft.
Grunt: Krogan berserker.
Garrus: Turian Punisher.
Miranda: Ice queen.
Jack: Psychopath.
the Asari of your choice: Paladin/vampire.
Jacob: Former military.
Mordin: Scientist.

And if you have the DLC;
Zaeed: Mercenary.
Kasumi: Thief/shipper.

All of the people who are some form of professional combatant are wearing actual armour, the rest however are not military, and the majority of them are biotics, powerful ones at that. Do you really think Jack needs armour to protect her from gunfire when she can stop bullets with her mind? You were also on a military ship in the first game, the Normandy 2 is a civilian vessel.

^ The Normandy 2; a civilian vessel?

Seriously? It's captained by Commander Shepard, the man who goes to war with merc organizations and Collector cruisers on a regular basis. No need to explain that one; plus, this "civilian vessel" has enough firepower to rip through an advanced heavy cruiser. It's a warship no doubt.

I also did not see those Cerberus commandos in ME1 sporting cloth vests or skintight suits, so just because Cerberus isn't part of the official military doesn't mean that they don't have codes about what their combat personnel wear. Heck, I even saw some MATCHING Cerberus armors; has Cerberus gone from equipping its personnel with real combat equipment to handing them civilian clothing for use in skirmishes? When did that happen?

I could go on, but the fact that people are trying to rationalize this in spite of Bioware's "official"comments (that the outfits were made to convey the personalities of each squadmate) is beyond ridiculous. If Jack doesn't want to throw on some armor at least, she might as well stay in her bunk and not give any of my other squadmates any cwaaazy ideas.

Holy Jesus, /rant. :/

I understand and agree that the armor issue is an issue to some but others like me don't care about that as much as others seem to. Yes it's a tad unrealistic but Miranda in armor? Ick I like the way she is.
