Look Tarek maybe this is not what you want to hear , But they did explain it all the characters have personal shields , in one of the dialogue they did explain it .
Since all of them wear military grade armor with personal forcefields .
Just extreme radiation will overload the shield like on Tali mission in ME2 .

Now I do prefer your suggestion , about giving them all full combat armor like ME1
Heck give all toons shepard modfication or choices , it brings back a more rpg and customisation options .
Still able to sell DLC cause of unlocking extra pieces , might even sell beter this way . then selling complete suits .

But you deeply look for reason well they do have forcefields all of them . those forcefield doesn´t provide oxygen but do protect the wearer from vacuum , like in the first segment at start of ME2 .
When shepard walks trough it towards joker .

sooooo, why do half my team in ME 2 walk around in thier underwear in vaccum wearing only a breathing mask??!!

ok the skin tight cloths I can undersatnd (mechanical pressure to counter the effects of vaccum) BUT why does Miranda for example show her eyes/face/hair in vaccum or hazzardous envirmonts and still live, or jack XO ??!!

WHY?

You're right they wouldn't die of blood boil or exploding cells but they would die a very painful death from Ebullism (bubbles in the blood).  Blood circulation stops,  lungs swell and hemorrhage, oh and brain damage occurs from lack of oxygen when beathing stops due to blockages in arteries.

BTW, this assumes that the pressure around the body slowly lowered over time before entering a vaccum.  If that doesn't happen then explosive decompression will solve all problems.

Not exactly. Read the article.

Now gentleman, this is the time where I say "but ME is a work of fiction and they have poetic license to ignore all the realism they want to". I also present you this:

lol at the star wars thing, and no they were inside the belly of a monster on an astroied with micro gravity hehe, I found it very immersion killing sort of.

and yes micro space debrie will hurt

all in all it just sucks when common sense goes out the window in games or movies, space ships sure I can beleive that, but people standing in a zero gravity/temparture enviroment in their underwear is too much.

So what?!?! I read the articles and nothing in either article goes against what I said.

Poetic license!?!? Please!  The codex and even every novel written about Mass Effect  mentions the importances of protective gear.  It's funny how people try to pass off this terrible oversite by EA/Bioware with any excuse possible.

This forum topic just keeps getting better and better!

Fuken Darth Vader outta no where...

But seriously, I think it is probably possible to not have to wear a whole suit, but who the heck would be that risky and stupid to try otherwise? I mean, I get it, it's ME and it's in the future, so no one is scared of space anymore because we know so much. Kinda like before columbus found America everyone thought the world was flat and if you go too far you'll fall off. So humans are smarter and less afraid, but in certain situations you would have to wear a full body suit, I am almost certain of it...

Right?

That however is pure gameplay mechanic, just like saving and checkpoints, an important one considering gamers today really aren't all about those hardcore modes where death = restart. The issue of what you wear however is a problem because lore states that you can't do it and ME1 supports that. Then right out of left field they decide to change it for the sake of "personal style."

A few points.

1. Someone mentioned chlorine would melt eyes. Nope just an irritant to eyes might cause pain and redness. It does its damage by being inhaled into the lungs. You can just look up in any search engine and find that.

2. So a couple of cm of cermaics and anti-ballistic material is supposed to protect against radiation, heat, and that whole laundry list someone cited. Yeah they say something similar in codex and people believe that 100%. Yet BW created the codex and yet chose to depict certain characters without hardsuits and they have a problem with that.

No way would such a small amount of even a futuristic wonder material ever going to protect against rads. You know how thick and deep they build fallout shelters and line with lead which is one of the few elements proven to shield. Totally believeable that armor thinner than the ME manual can provide protection.

3. Only a couple of the armors like Explorer (IIRC)had the heat, cold, toxic, and hostile environmental protection in ME1. We are assuming Shepard's new suit encompasses that. Note those suits were weak with little armor because the enviro protection suite had to take up mucvh space. What did you wear? The red and black Collosus armor like every else without enviro protection if you could find it. If not then the Predator. If you didn't think it important then you can't change your tune for ME2.

4. There were no real hostile environment missions in ME2. BW obviously planned it out meticulously.

5. As I mentioned armor really wouldn't provide anything against such powerful weapons.

6. Stromtrooper armor was for intimidation factor and to hide that they were clones initially. It doesn't do squat against blasters, lightsabers, bowcasters, explosives and so on. It would stop low tech like knives but even ewoks bows and arrows seemed to do something.

Just because you don't instantly explode or freeze doesn't mean that it's a safe environment. You will ****ing die. Period.
I can't believe some of these attempts of justification. Even in those links it says you have about 5-10 seconds to safe your self. You turn blind, your tissue starts to swell, your lung collapses and your blood does boil eventually. After a minute and a half your body is beyond repair.

1. Still a good reason to not expose your eyes to that unless you really have to right? Or is it more fun saving the galaxy in a handicapped state?

2. There is a huge difference between a completely sealed hardsuit and almost nothing. You don't know the technology of the suits in all it's details which leavesa door open for it to be believable. Furthermore the problem is that BioWare contradicted their own established canon. ME established how realistic this universe is going to be. If you contradict that, you not only go against common sense but also against the contained "reality" within the franchise.

3. Again, how do you know that the Predator armor does not protect from outer effects? Also, it is still much more believable than a catsuit or....nothing.

4. There are planets with extreme temperatures and/or toxic air. I don't care if a breather gives me air, I don't want to expose my skin to toxic green atmosphere! I would also not step foot on a planet with minus 30° Celcius without propper protection.
There are also instances where people have contact with the vacuum of space.
We know that you don't die right away by that but noone in their right mind would expose them selfs to that if they could prevent it by using the technology they have.
And the planned out thing... Yeah, there are not many really extreme
environments, but that adds a whole new problem. Is the whole universe
so much like Earth? How boring is that.

5. It is still protection and you still don't know how the armor is constructed.

6. Star Wars is sience fantasy and should have nothing to do with the ME franchise which started as science fiction. Unfortunately, thare was a design shift. Would it have started as science fantasy, like that other game...KotOR, then it would have been fine, although less unique and interesting. The broken continuity is one of the main problems here.

In reality, with modern technology. Just because the codex doesn't explain something doesn't mean the technology doesn't exist in this universe. And even if the codex does explain something doesn't mean it's true. The codex is limited to things that are public knowledge in universe, such as Sovereign being a Geth ship. Any technology created by, I don't know, something like a shadow organisation that hasn't been released to anyone outside of their own members wouldn't be covered in the codex.

Just for the record, your "You don't know how the armour is constructed." argument works just as well against your own argument. You don't know how much more advanced Cerberus technology is when compared to the rest of the Alliance.

1. No permanent damage will be done after even hours of exposure. Miranda by her father and perhaps Jack has been modified against her will by Cerberus may be able to have organs inured to such things as chlorine gas. You cannot say it is impossible. There is a part in the game about gene mod to exist on heavy G worlds so why not only oxygen permeable eyeballs.

2. You say BW contradicts themselves yet ME1 was more believable. They can say and do what they want. Would you be happy if they changed the codex to reflect our no need for armor arguments. Nope you'd argue against it because you don't personally want it to be that way.

3. Simple wear it in ME1 and go on any world that has warnings like inferno world and you will constantly take damage every few seconds.

4. Could you point out where there was -30 C i n thegame? I missed that. There was very little planetary time. You were inside buildings and ships for the most part. At no time were they exposed to vacuum. Some N7 missions yes Shepard alone but no Jack or Miranda.\\

5. We have ceramics today. How well does it stand up to modern weaponry? It provides some protection yes. Now fire it with mass acceleration. Get the picture. It may protect against the weaker stuff sure. However, if we are going for realism which obviously must be of paramount importance to a person like you then it should be breached and rendered useless after a few hits. Why to lapse realism in any area cannot be tolerated.

6. No. Star Wars is sci-fi. It is fiction based on technology. Just because some people think they can make new classifications for things doesn't make it true.
