Wait what, BG2 has a lower score than BG1?
Unlike DA:O -> DA2, other Bioware games actually improve as the series get more games.

I had to "gut" myself through Baldur's Gate, but BG2 was worth every step. This means I only half assed liked the first one, but fell in love with the second.

That being said, it's 10 years later and Dragon Age 2 is a great game. Funny thing though...Most of BG2's content took place in the city of Azeroth, ONE city, yet people ****ing about DA2 being in one city ignore that fact.

Errr where?  Obviously it's a long time since you played. There were many other locations in which the game took place.

How can people even think that DA2 compares in anyway to BG 1 or 2?

That is just ridiculous fanboy insanity, DA2 is worse than every other game from Bioware's past.

What???  Uh, no.   You had in Amn the city of Athkatla but a bunch of areas outside of it, plus even in the city you had different areas that looked nothing like the other.  Then you had Spellhold, the Gauntlet, Hell, the elfin city...could go on.

Azeroth WTH?

Obviously Shadowcran has never played, and has no clue whatsoever about Baldur's Gate.

Im 99.9% sure that there was more then one location... And even in the case that i remember wrong. Then im 99% sure that it was not copy paste areas over and over and over and over and over and... over again.

I meant Amn of course, hell it's 6 in the morning here. Add to that there was yet another "Rift" commercial going as I typed Azeroth. Their tagline is "you're not in Azeroth anymore'.

Oh, I recall the "other areas". Except for the Underdark, most were small, like IDK, Sundermount.

I still wish they'd have ported both games to the xbox or 360. They're over 10 years old now, but I wouldn't gripe.

NOTE: I also loved Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights and their sequels. Nobody seems to even recall them anymore. All I ever hear are comparisons to BG or BG2.

Rofl. Note taken.

I would pay 2c of youtube videos showing how average WoWer, CoDer, or DA2er try to get out of Ire research lab in the beginning of BG2.

Dragon Age 2 isn't even in the same arena as Baldur's Gate. DA2 is in the 'Awesome Spartan' arena.

No one who has actually played Baldurs Gate 2 would even think about starting a post like this.

BG2 is and always will be on the of the greatest RPG's of all time next to the likes of Elder Scrolls.

Baldurs Gate 2 just improved on the graphical and gameplay side of Baldurs Gate 1 and even if the story maybe for some was not as good it was very very good and did not matter because of the game improvements.

Gripping and totally engrossing and even today still is a fantastic game to play and has so many vital requirements that RPG's need.

Voice acting and amazing scenary can only be as good as the story that comes with it. This is what Dragon Age 2 fails on I care not for the story and so the scenary the characters and voice acting is meaningless!

Imoen. This name will always be remembered by all us just like Morrigan.

I've been playing PC RPGs since it was first possible to do so. I very much enjoyed Baldur's Gate when I first played it but soon grew tired of all that walking around. Baldur's Gate II reduced that to an acceptable level and raised the bar for PC RPGs everywhere. Neverwinter Nights seemed utterly stripped down in comparison to BG II. There was no Minsc and Boo, no Viconia instead we had "Henchmen" who specialised in getting one killed or so it seemed at first. It took me a good year before I enjoyed that game just as it did with its sequel. I grew to enjoy NWN in particular but I continued to play BG II and to this day I have played BG II more than any other game.

Dragon Age Origins felt like a step towards that classic game. Still no Minsc and Boo but it was a good sight closer to the joy that was BG II than any of the other games they had made since. I'm enjoying DA II, though I have a few gripes like any of us who have played it but I struggle to find justification for the vociferous nature of the posts I've read about it.

So what if PC Gamer rated DA II at the same level as Baldur's Gate? Maybe they do have a point and perhaps it would be fair to say that DA II is to DAO what Baldur's Gate was to Baldur's Gate II. I still hold out the hope that there will one day be a Baldur's Gate III and you know what, I don't mind that DA II isn't as good as DAO, or NWN or BG II, it's still an enjoyable game. That said, I still expect the next one to be much better so I don't want to see any slacking off, Bioware! ;)

If you compare older games scores on these sites you see how absolutely ridiculous their scoring system is, without even taking DA2 into account the fact that BG has a higher score than BG2 is nothing but ridiculous. I mean i love BG but BG2 is nothing but an improvement, they didn't even change anything they just improved on what was already there. They also give ridiculous amount of games 90+ which is only what the truly amazing games should get, not every game released from a major company.

Amn is a country. Athkatla is a city.

This.  BG 2 was released in what 2000?  Eleven years after the fact and there are people trying to recreate it in a new game engine.  You have modding communities out there today modding for a game that was never supposed to be modded.

Do you really think ten years from now the people who played DA 2 will be doing the same thing?

HELL NO.

Oh, I can just imagine how much it sucked for ADHD. Game breaking experience! You need to be grouped to zone and can't flee of fights by sneaking one char to the teleport zone and watch the rest of the team automagically teleport. Sucked!!!

Edit: And certainly ruined XP/hour ratio! BG2 sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh-huh. Sure you played BG...dude you're busted.Posted Image

Comparing DA:O with BG is obscene enough, but DA2 has little in common with a role-playing game. It's an action-adventure from what I read, and one not worthy of the Bioware brand to boot so it seems.

BG series is still the best Bioware ever made, with KotOR following at distant second.
