Scores nowdays is so inflated compared to 10 years ago that its not even funny. Everything gets high scores these days (almost anyway), before a 75 rating was a good game for ex while now that would mean bad I pressume.
Today everything has to be exagerrated to the point that epic mean....what....great? Its so dumb really. No perspective at all. This era is about sarcasm and exegarrating, very shallow indeed.

OP to answer your q, nope DA 2 is not better than BG! Will never be, can never be and wont ever be a classic even! Just a game among others that will be on few lips after some of the bigger competitions realeses their games this year, while BG (and moreso BG 2) is spoken of even today as a hallmarks in the industry and fans. That says it all really.

We all know that PC Gamer's 94% rating of DA2 was complete horse****. Why is this thread necessary at this point?

Asking if DA2 is as good as BG is like asking if your new car is as good as a horse. Games have gone through a lot of changes since the 90s, most of them for the better.

Wait, are you implying this grabage is actually better than BG / BG II? Lol? It's not even as good as NWN2's OC. Not MoTB, the original NWN2.

I will bet my left nut that anyone who legitimately thinks DA2 is better than BG2 never played BG2

I haven't played the game yet but could someone confirm whether this is even possible? I get the impression that it isn't but I may be wrong.

off topic but the answer is kinda. You can change her weapon, shield, and jewlery, but not her armor (boots, chest, gloves, helmet).

edit: Even the whole Chantry-mages-templar story just seems like a different version of the Cowled Wizards and Spellhold (a place for dagerous mages, fyi). Not just the areas seem recycled to me.

Irenicus can smells BS Bioware.

So in this game marketed towards the "Call of Duty" crowd Bioware thought it was a good idea fill the game with as much homosexuality as possible. Let's not forget the average age of the Call of Duty crowd ranges from 8-15 years old.

Feel free to copy/paste this post into any topic you please. Bioware has shown it has no problem with copy/pasting with the release of DA2.

If you think DA2 is superior to BG2 then I call into question your personal taste. Then again there are people who listen to Kesha instead of Mozart and Nickelback instead of Morbid Angel so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Its no real secret amoung the world weary that maturity and intelligence correlate directly with taste. Either that or maybe DA2 has just left me behind and I am rife with self-delusion.

So PC gamer gave this a 94. Another game they gave a 94 to was Baldur's Gate. Lol?

EDIT: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn holds a 91. Make of this what you will.

Game grading scales were different when BG2 came out.

Nowadays most games get 8.0+ from major reviewers.

DA2 has done to the crpg's what FF13 did to the jrpgs.

Both ranked highly, both got tons of backlash from the community.

Baldur's Gate was a great game, it will always be one. Sorry to you people that don't like that it isn't modern game compatable, but well there was a lot of stuff that happened before you were born. History doesn't rewrite itself each year to keep current. I feel bad that people think just because I have been playing games since I was four that I can't see the world objectively.

I'm twenty eight years old now, my life has had video games as a part of it since I was old enough to remember. Baldur's Gate was the game that taught me to remember maps, when I got into EQ years later I never got lost, I remembered which way was out. Just because it is old and you weren't there for the you had to be there stuff don't get all mad about it. Your a different generation, there will be a gap, we will throw things at you when you get on our lawn. The BioWare old school style rpg is our lawn, you punk kids with your anime annoy us by being in it.

I didn't play BG, but seeing as they're probably reviewed differently by different people comparing the scores is pointless.

But when you weigh a modern game against a nostalgic game, nostalgia always wins.

I've never played Baldur's Gate, but I can almost guarantee it's better simply based on the time period BG came out.

Well, if memory serves me right, BG2s start really, really sucked. That's loads better in DA2.

The rest, well, I think BG suffered a lot because it had the DnD rules enforced on the game.

I don't know, I think DA2 really stands out in current PC game releases, but I doubt it'll stand out as prominently as the Baldurs Gate triology.

BG2... incomparable. They need to just completely copy paste the entire story into a new graphics engine. Remember casting that first spell in town and having the wizard show up to warn you. A quick memory of what happened in the beginning of the game, and suddenly you have an actual choice, not presented to you in a dialogue wheel of three options. You aren't directed towards or away from the choice, but it's obvious. Do you ever risk casting another spell in town? And if you do... what exactly will happen.

That was a game, that was an actual world
