I selected the default hero of ferelden, then wanted to import Aedan from DAO, but seem to be unable to now, even after uninstall...  Am I missing something or is this selection final and absolute as far as my copy of DA2 is concerned?

You can't import anybody or anyhthing from DA:O, just events that happend, i.e., people make metion of them or affecting side quests. For instance, there is a sidequest involving a dwarf noble, it's either an Aeducan or Harrowmont , depending on who became king in your game of DA:O.

You import on Char creation the catagory named Dragon Age Origins under name there is the Default plus 2 pre built the last option is import you select that will bring up your DA:O list of chars select the chars select the save press plot summary to make sure it is the one you want then select import it is once per char. You are importing the world/history not chars or items
