I didn't like Isabela all that much. Anyone else concur?

If I recall, BioWare hyped Isabela a lot before the release. Besides Hawke, she was the only character to get an official wallpaper - and had her romance revealed way before all of the other romances were confirmed. Given that she didn't wear trousers, I was rolling my eyes, and my suspicions were eventually confirmed in-game.

But, as I interacted with her in the game, she struck me as an overly pretentious, petty, one-dimensional character brought back from DAO for the sake of giving the game some sex appeal and titillation for male players. I didn't even care when she left with that qunari relic and was absent for the remainder of the game.

Heck, I even liked Uncle Gamlen more than this chick.

I didn't hate her quite as much as you, but I did find her to be rather lackluster aside from a few party banters. And she's REALLY useless in a battle, though I suppose that's more my fault for leveling her up poorly because I just didn't care that much about her. I can never seem to get her in the range high enough for her to come back after she gets the relic, so I spend a the end of the game without her; that also makes me like her significantly less. Everything that happens with the Qunari, all the death, is her fault, so it's hard for me to want to give her the relic knowing that.

Yeah. I had high hopes, I was contemplating an apostate mage and devilishly charming pirate as awesome couple of awesome, but I had her in my party for five minutes and it just... didn't work.

I actually liked her the most of all the companions. Mostly because her (and Varric) personality perfectly meshed with my wise cracking, no care in the world, sarcastic Hawke. Now that I've started a new playthrough with a more diplomatic character I can see how the two of them don't really fit together.

I'd like to respectively disagree. I played a snarky mage who was friends with Isabella, (no romance at all) and there are some very, very touching moments in the friendship path that reveal her as more than a one dimentional eye candy. If you pay attention to her interaction with Merril there are some very touching moments too.

She does come through for you if you give her the chance. :)

Well, I did play a very diplomatic character, so that might explain why.

Her banter with Merrill is pretty hilarious, I'll give you that.

She's also not my least favorite companion, that would be Varric. >_>

Isabella's friendship with Merrill indicates that the former is much nicer than she may appear to be, imo.  And if you still have her in Act III then she even becomes friends with Avelline.  There's a funny scene in which you walk into Avelline's office to discover the two of them having a friendly chat.  Isabella finishes up a (probably dirty) joke and leaves just as you enter, and Avelline basically says, "She's not really all that bad - except when she is bad, of course."  There's also an amusing act 3 party banter sequence that suggests the insults between the two don't really have the barbs that they did in the earlier acts.  The insults are still there, but the implication is that at this point they're largely doing it because Isabella is supposed to insult Avelline and Avelline is supposed to reply, "Shut up, ****."  There's just no longer any real maliciousness behind the exchanges, unlike in the earlier acts.

I don't like her much either. She's a bit too trashy acting for my liking.

Yes, she is normally at odds with serious characters whether diplomatic or aggressive. In my opinion you'll be able to relate and get the best reactions from her with a sarcastic attitude. I had her at max friendship before I even got out of the first act with a sarcastic Hawke, while she's basically stuck at neutral with my diplomatic Hawke.

I ended up liking her a LOT more than I thought I would, actually.  Before the game came out, I just rolled my eyes at the promiscuous Zevran 2.0 character.  She ended up really growing on me, though.

I'm not overly fond of her, I was starting to grow fond of her as a comedic point of view till she made off with the relic. Now I just think she's a selfish ****

i wasnt sure how much id like her before i started playing. My first playthrough was with a male 2h warrior who was the goody two shoes and very mage friendly. at first when she joined i had her in the group with bethany and varric, and the banter between those 3 were worth it. then from the deep roads on, i replaced bethany with merril and again the banter with those 3 is hilarious.

Playing a peaceful, tactful, merciful mage friendly good guy, i started to enjoy isabela for bring in a sense of comedic quips and ease his seriousness some. ended up romancing her and going through the game as i did while romancing isabela, she really develops into a better character, and the conversations during act 3 with her along with the conversation in the prison before the last fight really show how much shes grown since joining you.
So she starts out as a selfish, loose, kinda mean, wild, 1 dimensional companion and ended up the companion that had the most development and character growth in the game. So after my current playthrough romancing merril(into act 3 already), i think isabela will be the one i romance most playthroughs(merril just didnt grow that much, although she is really sweet and the armor change she has once you romance her is wicked looking)

She was one of my favorite companions next to Varric and Bethany. Her banter with everybody was amazingly funny. Hope she and the others somehow carry over into the next game.

But she doesn't even have the grace that Morrigan had, though. Morrigan was a far more complex character, although admittedly I didn't like Morrigan all that much either.

As far as I'm concerned she's responsible for every death in the Qunari/Kirkwall conflict. I didn't mind her until I learned that she stole the idol, now I think she's the worst person in DA lore --Loghain and Meredith included.

Hardly.  While she's partly to blame for the Qunari being in Kirkwall to begin with, she didn't make the situation any worse than it already was.  Others - like the Chantry sister - are to blame for what happened.  Without the agitators, it's likely that the Qunari would have hired a ship to chase after her when she made off with the book (not idol) at the end of Act 2.

But she doesn't even have the grace that Morrigan had, though. Morrigan was a far more complex character, although admittedly I didn't like Morrigan all that much either.

Unlike Morrigan, Isabella actually changes for the better over the course of the game.

Isabella is a difficult one to deal with, at times fun, at other times annoying. I never thought Morrigan was also promiscuous (or at least as promiscuous as Isabella by a long shot) but she does change and get better, her banter is fun, she has some good comments. That being said I just dont think the idea of a promiscuous party member was a very good idea IMO. I didnt like Zevran that much, though dialogue saves Isabela.

DiablosShadows I heard that if you romance her you can ask her not too/or she wont.

You can ask her not to.  I didn't try that option, though, so I'm not sure if it works or not.
