Partly inspired but Sabres' guide I decided to do a 2H warrior on my first playthrough and I have been heavily investing in Reaver; all I can say is thank you bioware for improving this spec so much; it is awesome. Ablities such as sacrificial frenzy, the passive speed boost and devour make this really worth investing in. I don't even use a tank because with a 2H reaver it is win win; if anyone has doubts, try on nightmare the following combo:
Cleave, Sacrificial Frenzy, Haste, Heroic Aura and Elemental Weapons; normal to lieutenant enemies will be felled in but a few blows. The beauty of the heavy reaver build is that the more pain you take, the more you dish out so when you are 'tanking' you are also hurting the enemy severely as well.
Go for it!
Is Reaver the Ultimate Spec? If you haven't tried it you really should!

I also tried a similar thing today. I switched my Hawke to a 2h reaver tank type so I could bring another mage along instead of Ave taking up a spot. I have to say I'm definitely enjoying it a lot. Good call!

Its definitely the best warrior skill imo.
It does damage, heals and has great passive abilities.
I hated it in DA:O but love it in DA 2.

The thing I like about Reaver the most is that you don't really need to upgrade the abilities for it to be incredibly effective. -5 second cooldown on Sacrificial Frenzy is nice but not mandatory. I don't really use Aura of Pain all that often so not worth investing in, and while the Devour upgrades are nice, unupgraded it still completely refills my health (40 Con). Unlike In Berserker where you pretty much have to upgrade for it to be effective, Reaver is great by itself.

Reaver is really the best thing. I actually liked it in DAO, but only used the first two skills with any frequency. I love everything about the spec this time around.
Also, there is nothing more badass then Devouring the Arishok to death.

I've just started a 2hr playthrough now, so I'll probably take this advice!

I was thinking of making one for my 2nd playthrough. So the idea is that a "tank" can be avoided (i.e. not having to bring Aveline along)? I'd really like to run my party as me 2hander, Merril set to destroy, Anders specced spirit heals, and the exiled prince (which I didn't use much on my current mage playthrough).

Its ever more bad ass with Cleave, all the damage from aura of pain and the regen of Devour is doubled. Its crazy.
Devour with Cleave in the beginning of act 2 does 200 damage, and 200 regen to HP. And thats without the upgrade.

Reaver is the one spec every Warrior should take. It was my favorite spec in DAO and it still is my favorite spec in DA2. Even if only for Blood Frenzy. That bonus alone is worth, like, 12409183054891 skill points.

Devour skill is like a free potion every 2 minutes. It saves lives.

Indeed. With cleave there is no point in upgrading the skill since it already heals you fully.
I killed the arisoke with only a few potions since I was a reaver lol.
