While I do have my complaints about the game (and I've already made them elsewhere). After beating it I think it was pretty good.
Story -
Very good, don't believe what some are saying. It is a very epic game, though side quests can definently bog it down. You find yourself wanting to skip them so you can see what is going to happen next in the main story. However, the side quests are well written and varied, only a few in stage 3 being cr.a.p-on-a-stick. The main quests are just plain awesome.
There are alot of twists, I couldn't predict alot of what ended up happening. There are a few punches to the gut in the game.
You get to know your companions alot better in this one than Origins, each having a variety of side quests and conversations. You aren't pushed to romance anyone so you can still get alot out of romancable companions without any romance. The companion quests are integrated with the main story in special ways and you will see how when you play the game.
The game is tied more into your Origins playthrough than you might think, in the final scenes it is hinted that Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II may be in for a merger.
I can't wait to see what happens next in the Dragon Age story.
Combat -
Definently dumbed down, I prefer Origin's, but there isn't anything wrong with DAII's combat system if you take it for what it is.
When playing on harder difficulties you can definently feel that the game was intended to be played without much micro-management, and as such, the harder difficulties are harder then they need to be as you aren't given the tools you need to micro-manage.
Charater Specialization -
The new specialization system is very limited, you are pushed into choosing specific abilities as a warrior, and trying to be unique throughout most of the game is just hurting yourself. This is definently one of the biggest downers for me.
Companions having their own unique classes adds alot to the game.
Gear -
Its odd, I find it more tedious to give companions gear in this game than in Origins, though in this game you can't equip them with armor.
---- ---- ---- ---- ----
If I had to give it a point score, I am torn between an 8 and an 8.5. A better than solid game, though I think Origins is better.
