What's so great about Donnic??? He is crap compared the men of men known as Hawke.
I love during that scene that you can "flirt" with Aveline and ask her specifically why she likes Donnic. Even she doesn't know! She calls him average in just about everything and I find that hilarious. Sometimes you just can't explain love!

I mean, we're used to game characters falling over themselves for the PC, and the fact that she doesn't and is the one who always calls Hawke out on his/her sh!t (especially on the rival path) just makes me love her even more. Her character isn't squashed to fit the LI mould and it makes her very consistent.
Even in Origins, everyone was all about the Warden (romantically or not), whereas Aveline just lives her own life.

I still think that Bioware should have made her romanceable but made it difficult to accomplish so her character would not have been damaged that way they could have had her still intrested in that loser Donnic and Hawke would have to work hard to win her heart.
Because the Love Triangles in Origins always involved the Player having to chose between 2 Li's but instead Bioware should have made the player be one of the 2 vieing for Avalines affections and this way Hawke would have been seen as just a regular guy not some Hero.
It would have been good because think about it Avaline is a strong Independent Character and I don't think she would have changed at all as a LI I would think if anything Hawke would have been the one to change and that would have been a Re-freshing change Imagine it he is the Champion and then when he gets home he would be just Hawke with Avaline because she is his equal and not some Damsel in Distress and thats why I wish she was a LI.

Leave Avaline alone. She's strong, independant, and likes a man who's stable --- aka, not getting into everyone's buisness and being chased by h alf a dozen theves/mage/templar groups at any given time XD
Its refeshing to see someone NOT want to jump the main character's bones. Yes some of the other LI are .. less then optimal..
But Fenris is MUCH more sane then Anders.. and suprisingly enough, isabela is a great LI once she gets out of act2. Just avoid Janders and Merril-the-intense and you'll have two very stable, if slightly wounded,LI with a bit of baggage (aka, akin to most people in rl.)

Ahem... The Merrill friendmance is one of the sweetest romances... Almost as much as the Alistair romance from DAO...

Ok so WTF. there are 4 females in the game total. 1 is your sister so no romance there that would just be sick. and avaline isn't an option.... but they give u plenty of gay guys hitting on male hawke...... is this to make up for that BS with Mass Effect 1's love scene? now they have to just put a bunch of gay guys in the game. oh we get 2 females 1's a blood mage abomination and the other is a **** with more seamen on her shirt than on her boat. Biggest fail in the game IMHO.
There are four love interests -- two males, two females, all four are bisexual.
I think this means that there are an equal numver of love interests for males and females, gay and straight. I realize that may seem overwhelmingly unfair if you're a straight male, but for this straight female, I am SO glad that there are also two male love interests @@
Edit: Sebastian doesn't really count because his is not a fully developed romance -- maybe slightly more deep than Aveline's but not by much.

If you choose Donnic, the Mercenaries kill Donnic. You have the option to let them go for rivalry points with Aveline (if pursuing a rivalry romance) or kill them. After the quest is finished, you have a scene with Aveline where she tells you she wishes you had chosen her to be killed by the Mercenaries. This is where the romance can truly start. Hawke has the option of telling her that he couldn't bear the thought of not being without her.
Thus removes Donnic from the game.

1.Avaline-"Strong,Loyal and Independant"
2.Isabella-"Wild,Unpredictable and also Independant
3.Merrill-"Shy, Cute and Clingy
And I would choose Avaaline evertime if she was available.

What about if during Avaline's first quest- during the scene where you have to go safe Donnic there is a cutscene involved where both Aveline and Donnic are at knifepoint. The Mercenaries make you choose who is goining to get killed because they want their pay and a guardsman has to die. If the player chooses Aveline- she breaks out on her own and you fight off the rest of the Mercenaries and the game continues as normal (with her romance with Donnic) except you might get some rivalry points about it and she might confront you later about it. (You could probably tell her that you knew she could handle it to offset the rivalry points).

She wasn't written this way and she wasn't written as a romance. If you want to see her as a romance, there's always fanfiction.

Avaline
She was originally not supposed to be romanceable because of Wesley and his death but then Bioware decided that they wanted to further her character growth by making her move on with that Loser Donnic.
I figure they did not make her an Romance option for Hawke for one reason and one reason only because Avaline was a Straight Female whose Character was already written that way so they couldn't make her Bi.
Varric
Varric is a staple of my team he is awesome and funny to boot he is a great off set for Diplomatic/Aggressive Hawkes and he is Epic with Charming/Funny Hawke.
The main reason Varric isn't romanceable is he is a Dwarf.

Where are you getting your information? When is it ever stated by any of the devs that Aveline wasn't supposed to be romanceable because of Wesley? Stop making your assumptions fact, please.

I had no idea that you could take it all the way to heartbreak though, that's fantastic and worth a try.
