I check this thread and see a bunch of people saying how much they dislike the game. To me, the *balanced* combat system is the essential part of any RPG. That is the reason Fallout NV was a gigantic fail that I couldn't get myself to finish -- got too easy. That is also the reason I never bought any DLC for DAO, the game (on nightmare) became too easy towards the end.
DA 2 so far (lvl 17 on nightmare) has been amazing. There is a good mix of fights ranging from relaxing no-pause button mashing to grind your teeth and try it for the 10th time type. In my experience with RPGs, achieving such balance throughout the game is a *very* rare feat. I applaud bioware team for making this game so challenging and rewarding.
DAO: + great story/characters -uneven combat that gets boring (one of the few things i remember from that game is the lame feeling of spamming heal potions on fights that you couldn't afk through).
DA 2: +/- good story with great individual episodes, a range of characters ++ GREAT, rewarding encounters.
DA 2 > DAO.
DA2: great combat system that is balanced throughout the game
