Seeing Bioware getting utterly trashed is deeply upsetting to me.

ask for an " xbox game playable on computer ". IMO, they should aim for computer first so the game could be more " powerfull " rather than crafting an xbox game and dump it on computer, drowing down the potential.

Why? They should focus on the consoles, where it doesn't get pirated to hell. 360 sales crushed pc sales. PC elitists can think they deserve first consideration all day long, but there is a reason Bioware got more into consoles. PC players who think it's cool to pirate games ruined it for everyone, and are possibly the single most responsible people for how Bioware games have evolved(with appealing to consoles leading their decisions).

Why people are trashing all over Bioware as you so rightly put it is simple.

They, as a trusted and respected Developer, created a game franchise. People enjoyed it, but it wasn't polish enough.

They then announced a sequel, people were overjoyed. But this sequel did nothing to help, it ruined the aesthetic look, it ruined the tactical ability and it ruined the roleplaying experience.

People feel betrayed, and they have been, Bioware let people down with rushed content, 0/10 metacritic reviews are dramatic, but they show that they have insulted people that way with such a dissapointment.

Bioware need to look at themselves, stop with all the bull**** marketing and such and get down to developing great games like they used to, Mass Effect had little in the may of marketing and became popular, perhaps it's time for them to get back to their roots, and make games instead of PR circuses.

Console owners do not take much more care into their games as a being.

Baldur's gate is a great example, people still play that, Diablo 2 is a great example, servers STILL run for that.
PC gamers will play a game much longer if they enjoy it, and they'll mod it and mod it so their game never ends. Look at Oblivion. It's still making PC sales, but very little Xbox sales.

Both parties should be made equally, as PC games and Console games are not two worlds apart and at war, one is just more open and powerful, the other is much more refined but weaker.

Bioware betrayed their roots, and betrayed alot of people who do deeply care more about their games

I can see where the OP is coming from. I've been a fan of their games ever since Shattered Steel, just like you. But the fact that they've released pretty much exclusively great games so far does not mean we can't criticise them when they screw up. And in my opinion, they dropped the ball big time with DA2.

I guess everyone has their favorites. For me, no game ever came close to Planescape: Torment. Surpasses even the much more critically acclaimed BG2 for me. But Dragon Age Origins came close. Awakenings was a step back for me. A small step, I guess, considering the big step back the DA2 is. I know it's common to wail on EA, but I am starting to see why. I don't know enough about the development process to point the finger, but it seems to me that ever since EA started meddling with Bioware the quality of games has gone down.

Personally I hope that Bioware will learn from this and remember what made them great. (and find their way back to that) I have my doubts, but I haven't given up hope yet.

Bioware's supposedly "dumb downed" versions of their games are still better than what almost any other rpg company is putting out. Personally I think ME2 and DA2 are great games. A lot of fan's would seem to prefer Western RPG's fail much like JRPG's have in being stagnant and appealing only to niche crowds due to their lack of evolution. People have no sense of business and rather than occasionally dealing with something that helps others get into the genre they rage and cry. Bioware pulling people into the genre sets the stage for many more future games like Origins or ME to come out from not only Bioware but other companies who see how the genre is growing rather than stagnating. DA2 does a great job of pulling others into the genre and still is a great tactical game when you turn the difficulty up, it's a shame so few take the time to see it.

Claiming that Western rpgs are stagnant and needs to evolve directly infers that the genre must meld with the flashy, over-the-top, and in the eyes and minds of many...simplistic...games that are dominating by the casual gaming market and fps fans. This also infers that shooting....nonstop...at people or pressing one button ISN'T stagnant.

It's a matter of taste. Do I think shooting at people (or aliens or zombies) is stagnant? You betcha! If BioWare changed their business model, more power to them. But it is really a tight-rope walk if they believe we will be ok with them changing (too much) the ingredients to the cake we love. They want to carry us along and force us to change our tastes. Not going to happen. We will look elsewhere. But we love BioWare and want them to remember us.

I really didn't follow the hype for this game but I bought it because I had nothing better to do on spring break. I go back all the way to BG but DA2 makes me fear for the future of BW. First of all, I thought that the story was good and most of the characters were also memorable for me but the gameplay and the extemely restricted environments (even by BW standards) were terrible. I fear that BW has taken the model of a mass producer and will continue to crap out medium quality goods until the good faith of the fanbase has worn thin and been replaced by the COD base that they so seem to desire. I hope I'm wrong and I will surely find out with the release of ME3 which has been developed along a simular time length.

I have been a fan of Bioware since even before the days of Baldur's Gate.  I was a mech-sim fan in the late 90's and Shattered Steel along with Starsiege were two of my favorites during the day.  This is the company that has provided me and many others with some of the most memorable moments in gaming and I think they deserve better than the inecessant insults, trash-talking, bragging about piracy, and downright venemous rhetoric that has plagued these forums and others.
Not to say that their work is not subject to any criticism but I think it's important to realize that nobody is perfect.  I loved Dragon Age II but I can understand why some of the changes may have upset some PC gamers and certainly they are justified in expressing their opinion.  That being said, I think there are ways to state constructive criticism without the extreme hyperbole.
Even if you believe Dragon Age II is inferior to it's predecessor that does not automatically mean that Bioware is now terrible.  Zelda II and Mario 2 are considered by most to be inferior to the original games but they're still nonetheless considered solid games that are worthy additions to their respective franchises.  I imagine Dragon Age II will be remembered the same way.

Also, I think it's important for people to remember that some of the questionable things which have happened such as the banning of a player from his game because of forum activity is not the fault of Bioware.  Bioware is a development company which is a subsidary of EA and it's EA which sets the policies for user agreements and such.  I definetly don't condone EA's behaviour here but I applaud the forum for speaking out against this injustice and I feel that EA has gotten the appropriate message.

This post is getting a bit preachy so let me just conclude by reminding people that this company you're utterly trashing is the same company that brought us Mass Effect 1 and 2, Dragon Age:Origins, Baldur's Gate I&II, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, MDK II, all of which are considered some of the best games ever made, they deserve respect even when it comes to criticism.

You made the very same thread yesterday! Jesus christ here it is look! social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/6486635

People have the right to criticize the game. However, they do NOT have the right to come on to a privately owned website, and personally insult members of bioware, or EA, and act like children who didn't get what they want.

People do have the right to come onto the forums and criticize the game, especially if they've paid money to the company.  The purpose of forums isn't just to hear how wonderful a game is, especially when it isn't.  Companies use these forums to guage what their customers feel, both good and bad.

Fact is DA 2 is mostly bad, and that's been reflected in what's happened since its release.

*sigh* Yay for reading incomprehension?

That makes no sense....

The correct term is reap what they sow.

To a certain extent, true constructive criticism does serve a purpose. However, the backlash currently being felt appears due more to the fact the game is rushed and mediocre at best compunded by bioware who had the gall to claim re using areas was to ensure content was paramount, but we did it an artful way.

What! what game did you work on? because i think there must have been a shipping error and we were sent the beta. The game was rushed resulting in a poorly done ill thought out game

I really have tried to like the game, but the more I play it the more it manages to irritate me and i seem to be developing this irrational hatred of it,  despite my attempts to ignore its flaws, and it isn't PC elitism, as I own it on the 360, along with DAO/ME1 and ME2 and played KOTOR on the original Xbox! are any of these games perfect, no, but DA2 id not on a par with any of them
