Well I thought I convinced her not to return the relic to Castillon in the first act... and i insisted on her to return the book to qunari at the end of act 2... still she stole the relic and did not return.... is there did i do something wrong?

I was not a friend with her nor in romance with her...

I'm guessing her friendship needs to be pretty high. That way she gets second thoughts and returns with it.

I did it with Max friendship and choose to let her keep the book instead of insist given it back to the Qunari at the Fundary.

IIf you choose to give the book to the Arishok, Isabela will return in time for the duel to return it IF you romanced her. AFAIK that's the only way to make her return to your party. You can also choose to let her give the book to Castillon, which eliminates the possibility of resolving the conflict peacefully (doesn't really matter, as you have to kill the Arishok either way).

for all it's worth I played a non-romance friendship path with Isabella and let her keep the book. She returned in time, handing over the book and half-heartedly blaming me for my influence.

Her friendship meter was pretty high at the time though.

I had maxed friendship, let her keep the book and take it to Castillion, and she showed up at the Arishok battle to do the right thing.

Which one is Isabella? cause I'm kicking the other guy's butt! (the Artichoke, Quun General) as soon as my system quits locking up after every map travel that is.

I heard you can make the Arishok respect you, How do you do that? Just agree with him everytime you talk to him.

Doesn't matter whether he respects you; if you want to keep Isabela in your party (and alive, for that matter), you have to fight and kill him. The Qunari will leave after that. Say what you want, but these guys stick to their deals.

Also I didn't always agree with the Arishok, yet he said that I "command respect".

Don't hide the evidence of burned bodies, talk to him several times during the main quests... he will disagree with you a lot, but he can respect you for your honor. I was pretty surprised when that happened for my smart-mouth snarky mage.

And yes, it doesn't really matter in the end. But its a neat addition.

Question, if he doesn't respect you, can you still duel him?

I don't think I got his respect in my game, but I had to duel him anyway for Isabela(which I couldn't do as a spirit healer mage sadly)

No idea what happens if she doesn't ever come back.

If you can duel with Arishok then you have gained his respect. If your whole team ends up fighting him then you do not have his respect, or you can reject the duel and use the whole team. I also think youn need to have Fenris in your party to get the duel option. As that was how I got it.

You can gain his respect in the prior quest when you meet him at his compound with Aveline.

I have been searching the forums for days trying to find out why Isabella won't come back, I think I even started a thread on the subject. I am a rogue, I let Isabella keep the relic, she took off before the fight, I went outside and picked up her letter, I then got a quest to go to the hangman pub to talk to her, but she isn't there, so I went ahead and started the last quest chain, got all the way to the duel with the Arishok, killed him, now I understand from reading the previous posts, she's supposed to show up at some point, and give the relic back or something, but she never show's. I dont remember if I had sex with her or not, but I have the Isabella's got your back ability. By the way, after playing through this about 4 times, I gave up and moved on, and so far, I haven't finished the game yet, I still have the Isabella's got your back, ability, but she is gone.

If you have a high enough friendship or rivalry, or if she was romanced, she'll return (blaming it on Hawke's influence). It's at this point you can duel the Arishok for her life, or hand her own to the Qunari.

You also have to admit that the elves should stay with him because Kirkwall justice is corrupt and ill fitting. Also the elf bit is more about proving a point as a leader than being correct.

Friend /Rivalry must be 50% or higher.

I had maxed friendship and a romance. When she got the book, I actually told her to just leave with it and she still came back.

My friendship wasn't high enough. She never came back. Maybe next time I'll work a bit harder on that.

I believe you need max friendship or atleast very high (It's not unreasonable tbh, even with max friendship I thought she wasn't coming back since its Isabela and all).

I did not expect Isabela to come back, but she did.
I do not know if I had the Arishok's respect or not.
I didn't hide the bodies.
I said he shouldn't keep the elves.
I had max friendship with Isabela too, and I had never romanced her.
