can't recruit him till act 2.
Act 1 is the longest act.

This alone makes him a major detraction as you probably already have your favorite party setup before he's even accessible.

tbh, im not that bothered about him as a party member (aside from his quests), im more interested in the items and other stuff he brings to the game

Interesting character, nice accent, good personal quest. He has two main drawbacks, however.

First, he is basically incompatible with Anders. If you don't like Anders, fair enough, but if you do, it's fair warning to say that you cannot have both Anders and Sebastian in the last part of the game because they are on different sides and you have to choose. One or the other will be gone from the game depending on your choice, even if they are both at 100% friendly.

Second, Sebastian is an archer rogue (along the same lines as Nathaniel Howe in Awakening). I personally didn't have much use for him because I perferred Varric, and by nature, Seb's not a high cunning rogue and thus not great for traps and boxes.

Consequently, in my first run, he spent most of the game chilling in the Chantry and then left during the final chapter.

Also worth bearing in mind that his romance is not as fully developed as the others so don't go expecting the level of interaction you have with the other characters.

I'm curious why you call Seb a non high cunning rogue? Both of my play throughs he's got 60 Dex and cunning. He tears through mobs and locks equally viciously.

Good for the much needed cash to buy gear in the game (albeit the gear is generally ugly and bland), out side of that, he is as boring as watching grass grow, with one draw back... unlike Anders I don't get to stab him. All he is a male version of Liliana, a religious Maker zealot.

How on earth did you manage that? During my last playthrough he had 25 cunning and 43 dex at level 20.

Simple I didn't bother wasting points on anything else that really didn't help him. I kept base starter levels on everything but Dex, Cunning & Willpower.

I would like to know as well, even with the plus 6 stat boost at ch3 that should not be possible, 60/60

edit plus 7 stat boost on his armour.
so with a plus seven armour stat boost at lvl24 after makers sigh base stats are
Dex 20
Cun 19
Wis 18
points to spend 69

I decided the DLC was totally worth it when I brought Isabela upstairs during his act 2 quest.
