I don't miss being a warden at all, I always felt cheated being forced into being a warden in DA:O. I thought Duncan was kind of a jerk who was undeservedly hero-worshipped by everyone. And I thought it was too tragic that my wardens had to basically sign their lives away. No children, no career choices, dead by age fifty. Heck of a retirement plan for the person who just saved the world from the Blight.

That said I definitely prefer stories where the evil is clearly defined. It's more satisfying to vanquish evil than to get involved in a bloody civil war where there are no heroes.

Warden need to be selfess. You're fighting for something bigger than your own desire and need. You answered yourself  .

Ppl always want more and more.

I thought the good part of DA2 was that it broke from the typical RPG convention of "let's all band together and save the world, let's be hippies in this moment of togetherness"

No, you need to throw your character's lot in with a side, and no side is perfect (by a longshot).

I agree with you about being a warden. Dying young never appealed to me, and most of my wardens ended up conscripted, especially my Dalish elves and human nobles.

However, I have to disagree with you about the whole clearly defined evil thing. I think the reason I like DA2 better than Origins is because the conflict is very muddy. The choices are uncomfortable, even the "good" characters have serious flaws, while the villains have some sympathetic or redeeming attributes. I think it makes for a more interesting game, especially since I'm someone who has trouble being pure evil in a game. But I can honestly make a case for both Meredith and Orsino in DA2 without feeling like the next Sauron rising.

I really miss being one. I like being Hawke, he's just a guy. Not some God send that is the only person that can defeat the ancient evil.
