Maybe this is a weird question, but ...
I've seen some forum avatars of (female) elves whose ears poke through their hair or who have elongated-looking ears. Likewise, I've seen NPC elves whose ears poke through their hair. But try as I might, I cannot create "proper elven ears" for a character of mine. No matter which preset I use, no matter how much I crank up the ear size & height sliders, they just look like huge, slightly pointed human ears. At most, a few pixels poke through the hair when using an ear-covering hairstyle.
What gives? I'm a tad confused here.

I believe they do it with the toolset.

Yes, it's done by making the face in the toolset and transferring it to your save game. There's a long thread somewhere here that has some instructions for doing so.
EDIT: Found the thread.

Thanks. Huh. I must say that is rather disappointing if the character creation tool we get is basically a watered-down second-rate ripoff. I played with the editor in Morrowind quite a bit but can't make heads or tails of this toolset and don't feel like breaking my brain and game both just for a better customization option.
