I'm sure this has been asked a number of times but I'm a bit afraid of scrolling down either of the spoiler forums for fear of seeing all sorts of topics that I don't want to see yet.

I've completed all the quests I can.  I don't have enough gold to generate the deep roads quest.  (I certainly haven't been spending willy nilly during the game and I explore all areas as I play.)  I received the note to go see Gavron for a loan which I did, and agreed to.  I get to Varrics brother and he tells me to return with Varric.  I return with Varric and after their talk I still don't have enough gold.  (After selling everything possible including all potions I have about 38.)

I've tried wandering around parts of the city at night to get some more encounters, nothing.  It seems that the Gavron bit did not give me any gold at all.  Am I screwed?
