The Fade: Barrels, bug or no bug?

When I was in the fade, I tried of course to solve the barrel riddles. I'm quite fast with my mouse, but nevertheless, always before I could finsih the riddles, a fight popped up and then the barrels were unusuable.
I found an entry in another forum, saying, that this is a bug. Whenever something occures, like a popup (steam client in this case), the riddle becomes bugged and is unsolvable.

In my case, there was no popup, there were these fights.

Question:
1) Is it meant by the devs that these riddles must be solved before the fights start? If so, then this is beyond my abilities.
2) If it is a bug - the fight destroys the riddle - has someone found a workaround?

As always my apologies, if this topic was discussed before. Search-option is not available for me atm.

Hmm... no replies at all.

This means, I am the only person between five and eightyfive who is too slow for this and anyone else could solve it without the slightest problem, right?
<_<

Never saw this thread. I have no idea how these were supposed to work. I did what you did - played with them a bit, fight started, move to next room.

Would be interested to know what they were supposed to do . . .or how they were supposed to be solved.

Well, these are common puzzles. You have to bring the barrels into a certain order.
This would not be a problem at all, but - as I wrote - the fight starts and after it is finished, the barrels are unusuable.
Can't be right, IMO.

The problem is you have to bring the barrels into a certain order in under X moves depending on which barrel puzzle. If a fight ensues you failed to get the barrels in the right order before you hit the move limit. These are tough without a guidebook because you not only have to figure the right grouping but also get it right in a limited number of moves. If you succeed you get an attribute point for each puzzle. In the first one I think it was small barrels on top and big barrels on bottom. In the second one the red barrels go in the middle I don't remember which color goes right an left though.

Just save before the puzzles, themselves. They aren't that hard and they terminate if you make too many moves. So, no. Not a bug.

I'm not sure why, but I found the puzzles surprisingly intuitive. If you get them right, you get free stat points.

It's possible to do it without the fight starting. I remember having some difficulties with them when I was playing through the game after we were content locked, but eventually I was able to do it.

Comes down to how efficiently they're done, I believe.

My problem with the barrel quest is that there's no clue as to what you need to do.

I clicked on a barrel assuming I could loot it, noticed that there was a group of barrels I could move around, and then got attacked by a demon. Apparently demons are very touchy about people messing with their carefully stacked barrels.

I managed to do this on my first try!

I have no idea how ....:?

My issue was the puzzle with the tiny barrels...they moved and stacked on top of each other. As in. One barrel moved right when there was ALREADY a barrel to the right. So I had to keep clicking to separate them which made me go over the amount of moves needed. I even tried flat out following the solution from the guide after I was fed up from failing too many times and it STILL messed up and moved on top of one another. It seems like that has to be a bug.

I didn't get it the first time either. The only indicator you have for the first set of barrels is when they become more visible - it means you got them at the right spot. For the second set you have other red barrels in the room as a vague reference, and the visibility thing as well.

xD
I was exactly the same way. I just kind of messed around with them wondering what I was supposed to do and thinking that I'd figure it out eventually.

Then the fight triggered and I just shrugged, took the extra exp and moved on...

Aha, limited moves. That explains it. So, no bug, right?

Well i solved both of the barrel puzzles, it is limited moves.

basically for the one with the normal barrels and tiny barrels you just need to get all the normal barrels together on the floor with the little barrels on top.

For the 2nd one with the 4 red barrels you just need to get all 4 together in the centre, stacked like the spare ones on the wall next to it, the other barrels are irrelevant, only there to make moving the red ones harder.

After finishing the fade, the old elf lady gave me "on of the most precious books of elven knowledge".
I searched for this tome in my inventory and found it finally in "junk". I could not use the option "unjunk", nor could I destroy it.
So, what's up with this book?

Come on, you all got this book. Has someone found another purpose than dumping it at the shop?

It has no purpose - just shows you the full extent of elven knowledge: junk

Damn. Should have gotten an achievement for solving it on your first try ever. This kind of stuff is what achievements should revolve around, not things you can do simply by playing the game or re-loading a save.

Sure, there will always be the weak-minded who simply play following some guidebook, but they don't count. For people who enjoy playing games, please design achievements around actually being able to accomplish something beyond the scope of simply playing. :P

It counts your steps not how long you take I believe? I finished the first one on one try but the second one was weird and one of the barrel wouldn't move in the direction I wanted it to which was just...well weird.

Seems to be awfully bugged for me. When I click on the barrels, either nothing happens or they move in a random direction, often inside other barrels, sometimes under the floor. Most times, though, the barrels just don't move at all and the clicks still count as moves, so the demons spawn.
Am I doing something wrong? Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

try doing it on the 360. the targetting is bad and i always end up either doing some kind of weird dance around the barrels to make sure to get the right one or i accidently go over one pixel too much and pick the wrong barrel. by the time i am close to solving the puzzle, the demon pops up and when it's done, i cannot click the barrells anymore.

The barrels are not working for me at all. The only time they worked was when the book bugged out and moved to a different location that I was able to click and move the barrels. Now without the book bugged moving to a different place. All I can do is click on the barrels and they become highlighted and that is it..
