Mine are considering the fact they only highlight up and don;t move.

Ugh, I hated the barrels on the console version. Nightmarish controls.

Yeah, same here. I've tried clicking with the right mouse button; clicking with the left one, with both, moving the mouse around while clicking... doesn't work. Sometimes, when I click on them a lot, they'll move... unfortunately, they don't always move in the right direction and each click counts against your allowed moves.

You kids! I saw the barrels, said to myself "God, I hate puzzles like this" and went on my merry way. <3

Both sets are able to be completed without a fight starting. Once I figure out the screenshot function I will post a solution if there is a desire for it.

Caveat: MAKE SURE THAT THE CHARACTER MOVING THE BARRELS IS THE ONE YOU WISH TO HAVE AN INCREASE IN STATS.

i.e.: if you are using any of your companions to do the moving, that companion is the one who receives the boost--not your PC.

try doing it on the 360. the targetting is bad and i always end up either doing some kind of weird dance around the barrels to make sure to get the right one or i accidently go over one pixel too much and pick the wrong barrel. by the time i am close to solving the puzzle, the demon pops up and when it's done, i cannot click the barrells anymore.

LOL, I had that problem too, my wife was watching me and giving me funny looks.
"What are you doing"
"I'm trying to move these barrells"
"HaHa you look like a retard trying to dance"

but I finished both puzzles before the move count was maxed.

Seems to be awfully bugged for me. When I click on the barrels, either nothing happens or they move in a random direction, often inside other barrels, sometimes under the floor. Most times, though, the barrels just don't move at all and the clicks still count as moves, so the demons spawn.
Am I doing something wrong? Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

^This. I understand the necessary steps and all but most times I click on a barrel nothing happens or when they do move half the time they move in the wrong direction! <_< This is on the PC, btw. I'd like to get the attribute point but at this point the puzzle seems seriously bugged (or at least overly precise, assuming there are specific points on the barrels you need to click on) and hardly worth the effort of reloading every time the demons turn up.

a tip fopr the 360, hold left trigger and look at the barrel you wqanat to move, press A while holding left trigger, the charachter will auto move to the barrel and move it, made it alot simpler.

Yay, I've done it!
I just had to... ehm... restart my pc after each barrel -_-
Don't ask me why, but the bug seems to happen after I've moved my first barrel.
Simply reloading or restarting the game doesn't seem to work, so I had to move a barrel, save, restart my pc, move another barrel and so forth...
Aaaaaand it only took me 1 hour and a half to solve both puzzles!
(Yeah, I feel that a "WTF!?" is in order too, in case you're wondering. It works for me, though ^^' )

I'm experiencing this bug too. The barrels are there at the start but if i try to move one, it either does not move but the indicator does, moves in a random direction often into other barrels, or stays there. They have even been known to disappear under the floor. I've tried all the guides and tried just clicking onto where the indicator appears in the correct order stipulated even though the barrel moves themselves don't correspond. After 4 or 5 moves, the next move is unavailable where it is supposed to be so the quest is again a fail. Any ideas at all as to how to fix this? Is it a graphics card issue?

*Casts revival*

I have the same problem as Ben Lewis and some of the others. I've seen the video neal2565 posted, but I couldn't get the barrels to move where I want them to after the first click. Sometimes I don't see the barrels move at all; just their indicators and it seems random too. I don't have the patience to try Maedryc's restart fix (my PC boots very slowly!) so I do hope this gets addressed in a patch.

This is the third bug I have with DA2 following the save issue on single core machines (solved in patch 1.01) and the missing cutscene dialogue. Neither the barrels issue nor the missing dialogue are game-breaking, though they are annoying.

I *think* the book is one of those *acquire the book and get xp* things like some of the bonus content books you get at the start of the game. Since you get that book in a cut scene, then get quest xp and all that scrawling across your screen, its hard to tell if that's actually what happens or not.

I never had any issues. It's just the moves are limited, if you use up more than the limit a fight starts and the puzzle stops, indicating that you failed.

360 player here, no problem moving the barrels, as another poster suggested left trigger and then find the one you want to move. I was able to do the little barrel puzzle pretty quick but failed on the other one and was attacked. Mainly I think because I didn't look at the example of what I supposed to do before starting to move them around.
