Hi everyone,
I own a fat 80GB PS3, and have had very, very few issues with its performance over its 3 years. I live in the U.S. In January I downloaded ME2 from the PSN, and have had a few issues. Most were easily overlooked and did not really have an effect on gameplay, though they were annoying. I'm talking texture issues, character invisibility during conversations, etc. All pretty benign, until recently.
Two days ago I started up the the game, loaded my only existing save (I overwrite saves and delete careers I won't use again, though I leave autosave on). After 20 seconds of gameplay the game crashes and I'm left no choice but to do a hard reboot. I restarted the console, tried a few more times, but each time the game froze within a minute of gameplay or even while still on the title screen.
To remedy this, I decided to start fresh. I copied my save (mid-level adept) to an external hard drive, and proceeded to delete all save data, all game data, all patches, all DLC (I have all availabe at the moment), and the game itself. I then took another whole night to redownload and reinstall the game, its patch, and the DLC. I then copied my save file back to the PS3. The game ran fine with zero problems for the few hours I played that day. The very next morning, however, I start up the game only to encounter my original issue. During all this I have play tested other games and watched movies to make sure it wasn't the PS3 itself; all worked perfectly.
Obviously this is a gamebreaking glitch/bug/whatever. Also I am royally pissed that I have put well over $80 and 60 hours into a game that is, by all appearances, broken. So I ask for your help; does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Or should I just hope and pray my issue is fixed with the next patch? Thanks, sorry for the long post.
Insta-Freeze: any tips? (long post)

Try setting your system display to 480p resolution and see if that has any affect. I've been encountering freezes with the bypass mini game and after reverting back to 480p it works flawlessly. It might not be the best of resolutions but at least you can play the game. Hopefully they fix this issue because ME2 is too beautiful of a game to play at such a low resolution.

Unfortunately luck isn't on my side. I tried reverting to 480p, then 480p and 4:3 just for kicks; no beneficial effects. Also turning off the autosave function and disconnecting from the internet have had no effect.
I was looking forward to playing this game a few more times and importing my saves to ME3, but at this rate I won't be giving anymore of my business to a company that only half-finishes their products. I loved ME and greatly enjoyed ME2 while I got to play it, but this is beyond ridiculous. This also marks the last time I download a full game from the PSN, because essentially this adds up to an $80, two month rental, which is not what I had in mind when I threw down my hard earned cash for what I expected to be a quality product. I am very disappointed in Bioware and their efforts thus far. Hopefully the next patch, if there is one, will miraculously fix my issue. If not, I'll be seeing what I can do, if anything, about getting some form of compensation. Thank you, cool87machine, for the tips. I wanted to make sure I had exhausted all options before giving up.

Turns out Sony Customer Service had the solution. Apparently the game was partially corrupted when it was downloaded, or something to that effect. Remedy consisted of this video, essentially.
Afterwards I redownloaded and installed the game and DLC; everything works perfectly.
Edit: Prior to performing the Restore File System function I was told to delete the game, patch, DLC, and save data. All other settings and data on your PS3 will remain intact and untouched.
