Then DON'T flirt with men. And let's say they flirt with you first. Big deal, say no and move on with your life. What's so hard about that?

What's so hard about an option to say no from the start?

What's so hard about an option to say no when hit on? In real life you don't go up to a dude and say: "Before this converstaion starts, know, I am not into men."

Yeah if you try to put it in hte fear range, how would that work out

Oh no, there's a gay guy

*freezes up*
*Starts to hyperventelate*

Quick, go away, go away!

*starts to shake*

"I'm sorry man, this guy has a deep fear of gay people"
"How did he... tell?"
"When I say deep fear, I mean deep, like way deep man"

Firstly - I have to say that quoting wiki - is, well, it is what it is.

Just because it's Wiki doesn't mean the data is "automatically" incorrect.  Are you claiming the entire page is filled with nothing but lies?

I stated that sexuality is circumstantial.  It  runs on a continuum. This has been born out by massive research, the quoting of which is not appropriate on this forum.

LOL this is such complete and utter garbage!  If sexuality is as you say, a continuum, then why is there so much disgust towards homosexuality in the World?

Wouldn't that mean that most people aren't completely straight or gay, but have some degree of bisexuality?  But yet there's been so much aversion towards homosexuality throughout the ages, including the very Ancient Civilizations you probably think were very tolerant of it.....ie Rome.

Did you know the death penalty was once prescribed in Ancient Rome to men who had sex with other freeborn men/boys.  Of course you didn't.

The law was called Lex Scantinia.  Look it up if you don't believe me.

We were not arguing "sexual behavior" vs "sexual orientation".

The reason why I brought this up, is because you obviously don't know the difference between the two, and it pertains to our discussion.

Do you have something to contribute? Or do you just fail to understand the definition of phobia?

That is it's litteral deffinition yes but as fear breeds hate, homophobic would still be correct.

I wasnt aware a word only had one static meaning.

That's the beauty of a dictionary...

So...that broken heart icon doesn't stop a romance from occuring? So Anders and Fenris raped M!Hawke in your games?

apparantly some people rather have a blindfold and go "LALALA GAYS DONT EXIST IN MY WORLD LALALA"

when in real life, most people that have matured, when confronted with said disagreeable issue, would just tough up and deal with it.

Hell I'm not even mature and I know when to say "no thanks" tis not a hard concept.

It's not like Anders/Fenris romances are traps like that damn Asari consort. :pinched:

I was pleasantly surprised by that...

Because that isn't what the toggle would be. It's removing the presence of alternate sexualities from the game.

For it to be saying 'no' from the start, it would have to be something like Hawke saying a scripted 'no' instead of choosing it...and...really...how is that any different than you selecting it yourself?

Pssst... he doesn't get it.  Just as those who don't get that "phobic" has nuances and meaning that go beyond simple "fear".   And anyway - fear and hate often go hand in hand, don't they?

Honestly, i think this is one of the most frustrating topics i encounter on this forum. The writing department created an amazing world rich in lore and character development, but by continually  adding the romance option it feels like it made the community turn away from their well constructed world and instead continually blather on romancing x character or why too many/ not enough characters are gay. Even worse it seems like they are now pandering to those complaints instead of focusing in the immersiveness that made those games great.

My hope for the next bioware game is that the emphasis comes back to interactions between the player and the overall universe and have relationships be mostly platonic with little mention of your sidekick's preferences under the sheets.

Now I know your doing this to frusterate me but I meant start of the game.

...Why?

You have an option right after Anders hits on you to shut him down and that's the end of it. He'll never hit on you again.

For some people, and i include myself in this, it's easier to avoid issues and pretend they dont exist instead of confronting and saying no.

Well why should your mom!!! be catered to? Oh snap.

My point is Bioware is respecting the opinion of a segment of homosexuals, so why shouldn't they respect my opinion and give me an option to say no from the start?

Because they shouldn't cater to bigoted people. That's why.

They wouldn't cater to a racist who doesn't want to see non-whites in their game.

They wouldn't cater to a sexist who doesn't want to see women in their game.

Because your aversion to homosexuality is wrong. And adding said toggle would condone it.

Unfortunately, everyone thinks it's Burger King and they can have it their way.

I parodied mindless prejudice a number of pages ago.  And I pointed out that your mindless etymology is linguistically spurious.  :wizard:

Nobody reads pages ago. And I'd rather use the actual defintion of phobia than the bastardized word clueless people like to shout. It's little different from calling everybody a racist to try to win an argument.

Maybe they should've included a 'no unanounced blue alien sex' toggle at the start of the game?
