I have no problem with heterosexuals, I just hate it when they suggest a Turn off gay option. They may as well be saying " I don't approve of you nor your unatural lifestyle, thats why bioware must make an option for me to ignore people like you."
It offends me.
I'm sorry that offends you, but I don't buy video games in order to validate anyone's sexual behavior (even my own). I have no problem with your playing the game you like, but I'm not inclined to spend money on entertainment highlighting homosexuality. I don't question your dignity as a human being, and I would stand between you and someone attacking you because or your sexuality. (As a matter of fact, I've actually done this.) I will, however, always have a certain distaste for some of the things you are inclined to do. Odds are good I do some things you'd rather not have to look at, either.
In any case, I come by my inclinations just as honestly as you do. If a company wants me to buy its RPG's it should probably look into a way to firewall the sexual preferences so I'm more likely to enjoy the immersive storytelling. No one is under any obligation to do so, of course, and I'm not obligated to buy and play their games.
There was a time when this debate was about gay players having choices that allowed them to experience the game as they wished. Now it's apparently about straight players learning not to play the game as they wish
I understand where you are coming from, but I never meant for it to sound like I want people to buy the game to validate my sexual prefrence.
I'm just upset that a line of dialogue has people screaming for ignore homosexual options.

You can't toggle out women, or non-whites, or trees, or chipmunks, and you can't toggle out gay content.
Optional content is optional. You get hit on, it made you uncomfortable, but you could easily turn the proposition down. It'd be literally the only time you'll get hit on by a man in the game. This happens in real life, and you want to pretend that it's immersion breaking? Please.

This thread offends me and a whole bunch of other people (no, I'm not homosexual). This is discrimination against homosexuals. "Can we not see homosexual options?" is what you're really asking. No.
This thread should be LOCKED.
The problem being that there's "valid" discussion going on, at least according to mods.
Other patently moronic threads have survived on this. Like "Female Shepard should have seduction dialogue because FemShep (and woman) can't be intimidating" - seriously, that lasted until the OP threw in the towel convinced he had "proven everyone wrong."

Perfectly comparable. Do you get worried about films or novels that deal with homosexuality? I´m sure you avoid them and move on. Same with this.
How is dying and respawning and gay guys hitting on random men comparable? Typically such films and novels are going for a niche market, this isn't. What is wrong with implementing a relatively easy option that would make the game just slightly more enjoyable to some? After all, wasn't that the basis of your argument back when you wanted this sort of thing from Bioware?

We're also talking about eastern views here, and while they do certainly seem more comfortable with homosexual relationships in manga and anime and various other mediums (see: every questionably gay pretty boy in every show and comic ever), they also seem to have much more comfortable friendly relationships. For example: I go to school with a lot of asian people. They have no problem hugging each other, leaning on each other, sitting uncomfortabley close to each other. I was talking with a couple of them, and it seems to be an eastern thing. If some girl was practically sitting on my lap, I'd be thinking she was into me. Whereas if one of these girls from my school are practically sitting on top of each other, they are seriously just friends.Heather Cline wrote...

In Final Fantasy XIII it's alluded to that Fang and Vanille are lesbian lovers but nothing solid is confirmed in the game at all.
No they were alluded to being lovers. It's fandom and fanfiction that some people call them cousins, sisters, and other things. *shrugs* A good reference to the allusion is when Fang and Lightning have their cutscene after first meeting in Palumpolum in the game. Fang states "I would tear down the sky for her" when she is speaking to Lightning about Vanille. Now I don't know about you, but I don't know of any cousin that would tear down the sky for another cousin or risk their life or go as far as Fang has in the game for Vanille. A lover yes, cousins or sisters... not really. Yes blood is thicker than water and familial ties do create strong bonds but not as strong as how Fang feels for Vanille in the game.
Also I'm really awful at explaining things so that might not have made any sense.
As a side note, any girls wanna sit on my lap, go right ahead. I will not complain.

We don't deserve an option to disable such content? In that case you don't deserve gay LIs. You insist on having a choice of gay LIs yet straight players don't deserve a choice to opt out of such content?
They wasted all of that effort to add gay LIs, yet they shouldn't waste the effort for a "no" option. Face it, you're insisting Bioware flash this in everybody's face.
No, you don't "deserve" anything, and why you feel entitled to such is - bemusing.
Gays, lesbians, bisexuals - and (gasp) women play games - not just het male gamers.
Get used to the idea of devs being more inclusive. Especially with RPGS which are meant to mimic real life. You want a het male testosterone fest?
Stick with Gears of War.
Problem solved.
"attacking" a male gamer? Surely you guys have thicker skin than this comment would suggest?
Or - maybe not. ::smile::

You need only to do some reading on great Militia societies (such as the Greeks and Celts) and on rates of same sex sexual encounters in the incarcerated to know this is true.

Because your request is foundered with bigotry. It's degrading. It's saying "People can't stand the presence of others with your sexuality, so we're letting them remove it, because we wouldn't want them disgusted with your gay filth."
I'm sure people we very uncomfortable in a few of DAII's quest that had nothing to do with sexuality--should those be removed? Their characters and how they portray them are as much a part of the story as their quests.

Content being there don´t force you to play it. Just as you can be a jerk with anybody or kill many of your companions in DA:O and you could simply not go for it.
Dying and respawning is a clear example of your argument of "becuase it does not happen in real life, neither it should on videogames".

You state that it is bigotry, but what if he legitimately is comfortable with being a heterosexual male and would just automatically shut any attempts at being hit on down.
It's like skipping the tutorial in a way, you know its coming, and just dont feel like dealing with it this time around.
But whatever, you can believe what you want, as objectively as you want.

Me too - and in fact, I believe that the romance was super played down in the American version.
In fact - I question the comment that homosexuality is non existance in Japanese games- much is lost in translation, and in "Westernization"....
