So there is basically no point to trying to gain points with him, all that time I spent building his character up and trying to get his approval rating up..he automatically leaves you after Act 1 and you really have no choice in the matter?

I'm trying to think of a better option. Carver as a Grey Warden or Carver as a Templar. I thought the point of the character was to actually build and mend a relationship, but basically he is just a jerk the whole of act 1 and than he joins the people who want to kill his sibling...And worse, I wasted time with him when I could have been raising the apporval of others.

So basically there is no way to regain Carver? Is there no way to mend the relationship between the siblings? THe Templar thing might be easier considering I need Aveline in the Deep Roads since she is my tank....But the Grey Warden thing is cooler.

Does Carver ever show up again if he's a Warden? Does he show up if he's a Templar? Does he stay an enemy if he becomes a Templar?

Basically I'm trying to find the best option to him in the story and to keep his own story going...So far he is the most interesting non-Origins/Awakening character in DAII, so I'll be bummed if he becomes some tertiary character.

I had heard he stays with the Hawkes if he becomes a Templar and he does appear as a Warden..but where does he apper more and for those who finished the game, where do you think he gets the most development?

He'll leave your party no matter what after Act 1. I made him a warden and he made a cameo and Act 2 and then rejoined your party in the final quest. The guide says you can get him to 100% friendship and there will be special dialogue but it looks you need to do everything perfectly. I only made it to 50% so I'm not really sure how to do it.

Oops sorry it was late and I was SO tired, haha. Titled fixed.

How do the heck can you get him to 100% in one act? That seems almost impossible....He isn't exactly hard to please...

Can you still get his points up in the other acts? Does he have to be a Templar for that too happen?

So which options both gives you more Carver/Hawke development(and scenes) and has him joining your side in the end.

You can only get approval in the first act. Im not sure about the templar but I do know that carver helps you on the finding nathaniel quest as a warden, not much else though. But I highly doubt he'll get to 100% friendship if you dont take him to the deep roads. He really wants to go.

Either way Carver or Bethany will be with you up until the Deep Roads are completed. After that they'll either be dead, in the Templars/Circle or a Grey Warden. Understandably then they'll pretty much not show up until a few key areas of the story, and the very end battle.

In my playthrough as a mage, he went to join the Templars due to some choices I made. He did show up in the end, and even if for a while I thought I'll have to fight him when i didn't side with the Templars in the end, he stood up to Meredith refusing to kill his sister.

I had him at full Rivalry before he took off and did his personal quest the rivalry way, btw.

So did he only show up in the end and no other time? And was he with you in the final battle?

I personally made him a Warden and got him to 100% Friendship.  He showed up at various, surprising times and sent letters to the house occasionally.  He still jabbed at Hawke,  but it was more friendly and less serious than it had been previously.  At the final battle,  he also has a special dialogue that sorta makes it feel more worth it too...and I think he came into his own as a character, finally.  He shows up for certain quests and the final battle, for a certainty...if  you do it right.  You can definitely tell him to bugger off.

As a templar, he showed up also when the templars and Orsinio went towards the occupied keep during the Qunari invasion, and he had some comments there (rivalry path in my case, siding with Orsinio..)

At the end, I am not sure if he can outright side with you when you choose to side with the mages, I did have a conversation with him that resulted in him staying sided with the templars. However, at the end, when Meredith screams bloody murder at the Champion, both him and suprisingly Cullen put themselves between Meredith and Hawke.

He's a templar, i'm a mage. I sided with the templars. I didn't get his friendship up very high, it was in the red-grey area, but at the end he said he's glad i'm his sister and our characters go into a light-hearted discussion about what mother would think if it took something like this to bring us together.

Carver will not join you as a templar until that point.

As a Warden, either is possible.  He'll ask you WTF is wrong with you if you side with the Templars, especially since  you're a mage and he came to protect you from them.  But he'll do either,  complaining aside.

Gesh had you get him to 100% friendship in one act? I've tried and for the most part I've only once had his approval rating go down by 5 and he's still just in the midddle..Does bringing him to the deep roads net you like 100 points? haha...Is there some gift i'm missing???

So if he's a templar and you side with the mages(which I don't see why you wouldn't...being a mage and all), he doesn't join you at the end but he does 'side' with you. But if he is a Warden, he sides with you and joins you?

Seriously? Are there specific quests that give him more friendship? Even when he agrees with me I never seem to get any points for it. Do you think you could give me some tips on how to do it?

Seriously, I'm in the same boat. And I think because he's at home during his sidequest he doesn't even get points...I mean how the heck can you do it?
