In NWN/NWN2 it was TLK ranges that needed coordinated however these should be taken care of by the measures BioWare put into the toolset (though we've still to see these in action). However for DA I believe the MDA ranges are going to require this. People have started producing mods which extend existing MDAs (whether it is simply a new entry in PRCSCR or something more) and have presumably arbitrarily selected their IDs. Sooner or later there is going to be a collision.

Therefore, while the community is in its infancy, it makes sense to draw up some guidelines on reserving/assigning ranges of IDs for MDAs. We have a little over 4 billion IDs for each MDA so there should be plenty of room for all of us (including BioWare).

I had the same thought earlier, as I was randomly choosing ID ranges for my MDA tables. Not sure how we can organize this, but it would save a lot of trouble. :o

It's a good idea. The modding community for X-wing: Alliance did the same thing, by generally establishing which ship slots would be available, while others were dedicated to specific ships (something like, Slot 183 belongs to the E-wing and stuff like that).

However the problem is this is going to be a MUCH bigger community, so how do you coordinate and organize it? You're going to have one isolated little group here, probably another at DA Nexus, etc. How do we get everything going on the same page unless perhaps Bioware gets involved and establishes some sort of database, but besides taking their time away from more important things (bug fixes, more utilities, new official content, etc) how many people would want that level of control on fan-made content by the developers?
