OK, so I guess I'm in act 2 (is there a clear deliniation? It never said act 2, but I've come back from the deep roads). I can't figure some stuff out.
1.) I've found tons of resources, and bought quite a few recipes, but can't figure out how to actually make anything. I've got the 2 dwarves at my estate, and can embed runes into weapons and armor, but that's it. I've never seen a station that lets me do anything else, either at home or elsewhere.
2.) Is it actually possible to romance Merill as a female hawke? I've never once gotten a flirtation option, either in the first chapter or this. I did get her the gift from the vendor, and all her armor upgrades I could find, and her friendship thing is very nearly pegged. I have gotten flirtation choices for Anders and that other male elf, which I haven't used. Whenever I remove Merill from the party and go to her house, she never has any conversational options...

1) There's no official title for the Acts but yes, after the Deep Roads is "Act II"
2) There's only a handful of flirt chances with Merrill there should be a couple in Act II after doing her quest there. Conversation opportunities only occur when certain criteria are met. So bring Merrill along during main quests. If one of your companions wants to talk to you it'll appear in the Companion Tab in the quest log.

You have to meet people in Kirkwall to open up crafting.
The rune guy is in Hightown, by the other merchants.
The poisons guy is in Darktown, right by the entrance.
The potions woman is in Lowtown, can't remember where.
After you talk to them you have a short conversation where Hawke "recognizes" them from his/her time as an indentured servant, and they offer their services. After that point you can craft at their table, or at a table in your estate (next to the fireplace). It's next to the door in Act 1.

Thanks. I met all 3, but never found the tables. I did find them in my house though (derp).
And, I've gotten Merrill's quest, with it's first flirting option, so we'll see how that goes.
