I could not get Lirene talk to me about Anders.  All she said was if I wanted to help was to put coins in the donation box.

I never could get her to talk to me about Anders I went in there 5 or 6 times same thing happened

Any help would be appreciated

This might be a shot in the dark, but have you first gone to the Hanged Man to talk to Varric about Anders and activate the quest?
