So... now I feel like I have to import a save from a Hawke who let Anders live into DA3 in the vain hope that my reward is learning Anders name.

It's Hrolf and his unique gift is a necklace of enchated wursts. He gets a new pet, called Victor, who is a goat.

I agree with everything you've said, with one caveat- "Hahren" is a title, meaning elder.

Ah, good to know!  Thankies for the info!Posted Image

Ok, Anders. I could forgive you for blowing up a church, but seriously... My Hawke allows you to live in her house for 3 years and you can't even tell her your real name, first or last? *Now* I've been betrayed.

As far as I'm concerned, and until further notice, Anders' real name is Frederick McCrazyPants.

.... Oh man. As I typed that I realized something. His first name really could be Frederick. I base this off 1. Being from the Anderfels, 2. His party banter in Awakening with Nathaniel about Ser-Pounce-A-Lot's name.

[*]Nathaniel[/b]: Isn't that name a little... ridiculous?[*]Anders[/b]: What do you think I should call him? Frederick?
[/list]I can see why he would perfer Anders. Lol. Definitely a far stretch, but there's a thought!

Well, the thing is that Anders isn't his first name, either. It's a nickname (his family is from the Anderfels).

So providing you with his real name wouldn't be much help. Posted Image

Oh I don't know, I think it would spark even more discussion on the boards than not knowing it at this rate, heh.

I think some characters have no last names since they grew as orphans. They probably get named after their orphenage later or give themselves titles. Like Jenny the Red, for exemple.

Will it ever be relieved though? Like other characters?

Anders is not his real name either - it is effectively a nickname since it refers to his country of origin. I suggested on the Anders fanpost that since his last memory of his family is his mother screaming, it is entirely possible that she was screaming his name and so he finds it too distressing to have it used. There may also have been an element of defiance so if the templars/First Enchanter asked his name, he refused to tell them. As for his last name, there would be no point using that as all ties with his family were gone but once he became actively engaged in the mage rebellion he might still have felt it better not to reveal it for fear of reprisals against them.
In any case, since we have sexual equality in Thedas why does a female Hawke have to take Anders' last name anyway? Surely it would make more sense for him to become Anders Hawke.

As for Isabella, I would assume she would know ways to prevent pregnancy and just leave it at that.

Last names, in some places, were things given to nobility along with your lands/titles/crests/family mottos/etc.  It showed you were a person of note.  It is also denoting family lineage, if orphaned young with no family to claim you, you may not know if you had a family name.  I don't think Thedas has the best geneology records given all the Blights and wars.

Here's more on family names via Wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia....iki/Family_name

Agreed - he took on her surname in my headcanon. Anders Hawke sounds good :)

Makes practical sense, and better protection to take her name. I believe it used to be that if the woman's family had a title (and no male heirs), but the man's family didn't, he'd take on her surname (and title). I see it something like that.

Geez. What Mr. Gaider said is in the Awakenings codex. I guess nobody reads their lore? :P

I love McCrazypants because my Hawkes make his pants go crazy, lol!

Btw, did anyone else read that as M. C. Crazypants? Just me?

Ohhh, like there is a hidden clue in it.  I really like the idea.  I doubt they are working that hard to make us think, but I am sure they find all the ideas that get tossed around amusing.  Who knows, they might run with it.  ;D

Could you give us some insight on his relationship with his family? Did it become strained when he was discovered to be a mage? Was he able to see them at all?

I know he loves her as he still has the hand-embroidered pillow that he dreams about killing Templars on, but what about his parents?

And is his real name really embarassing like Finn's?

Something I can't understand about DAII is how the hell Anders can just waltz right into the gallows, talk to Cullen who would KNOW him from the Ferelden circle and then can just waltz right out again. Why doesn't Cullen do anything or say anything? Is it because Hawke is with him?

I always wondered this too. Then I thought that maybe the fact that Anders is also a Grey Warden allows him a bit of freedom from the templars. It's like Anders is floating a check between the Circle and the Wardens and sooner or later one of the groups is going to figure it out. Although if Hawke's sibling ends up a Warden, then they seem to consider it a trade for Anders. :wizard:

I cant explain any early encounters between anders and cullen but by act 3 Anders gets by because he an associate of the Champion of Kirkwall. In act 3 anders can confront Meridith at the end of her quest and Meridith will respond by saying that she only tolerates an apostate like Anders because he is a friend of the champion.

Cullen is a young templar in Ferelden, the Amell mage is his first Harrowing, so it is very likely he has had no contact with the older Anders, who was running away years before Cullen made googoo eyes at female Amell. *giggles*

If you killed Anders you may never know his name. I was thinking the same thing about Finn's name LOL!

I've heard of sponges soaked in vinegar, then I guess there was the rhythm method, douches etc as well as abortifacients...

1) Aveline insulted Isabela about that-when they fought at Hawke Estate near the end of Act 2 lol. I wanted to quote her, but I forgot what she said. That being said, as much as I love Isabela, I wouldn't be surprised if she'd been pregnant and got rid of it. Not wanting to start an abortion debate, so I won't say anything about that choice, but I wouldn't be surprised. She does not come across as a girl who would always use protection. Or even at all. Lol.

2) I am interested too, but from what I read from the DA wiki that that's not his real name to begin with. I don't think I care about him enough to really ask the devs about it though. Anders pains me.

Anders is a nice nickname since it means "Different" in dutch. suits him doesnt it?

Because of this I nearly fought with a friend... I´ve told her a bit about Awakening and she wanted to know what the name of the guy "with the dress" is.
The conversation went roughly like this - I´m paraphrasing, it´s been a while:

"What´s the name of this guy, is this Nathaniel?"
"No, it´s Different."
"What is it then? Robert?
"No, Different."
"Charlie?"
"Different"
"Bob, Henry, Malcolm? Just tell me already!"
"I have, it´s Different!"
"Why won´t you tell me? Spit it our already!" She was fairly angry at that point.
"It´s Different! Upper case! D.I.F.F.E.R.E.N.T. As a noun."

It went on like this for a while, until I finally got the brilliant idea to just show her the character sheet...

A slightly old thread, but I felt the need to point something out... We KNOW Anders wasn't his real name from Awakening... There was a party banter, where someone asks him about his name. And he tells his real name during that... All I remember is that it was long and weird. I think it might have been between Anders and Nathaniel, but I'm not entirely sure.

Isabella hasn't become pregnent through divine intervention.  Most of the people she sleeps with the Gods look down at and say "Do we really want to mix his DNA with hers?"  The answer is usually no and in the rare cases it's yes, she just doesn't get pregnent.

Anders' last name is "Cossoaf" which stands for "Couple of spirits short of a fade."

Edit:  Okay, I'm lying.

Hmmmmm, I was certain he mentioned at least the nickname part, seems I have to do a replay of Awakening, this is bugging me now lol
