I'm sure this has been mentioned already but I didn't see anything when I scanned so here goes; near the start of act 2 I finally decided to dump the two hander and try sword and shield so I used a Makers sigh potion and reallocated all of the skill points.  Everything worked fine and I didn't notice anything odd for the remainder of my session which covered a few missions.
I go back to the game a few hours later and in the first combat I encounter I bring up the power wheel and discover I still have some 2 handed skills - sunder, whirlwind and scythe (even though you can't take these without some of the others).
I checked on an old save and these 3 points are in addition to what I should have and can be used if I respec again.
this is mentioned on a couple of sites as a potential exploit.

EDIT: Just noticed when respeccing again I have the extra points plus I have retained 8 skills (5 sword and shield, 2 two handed and 1 warmonger) meaning if I use this I will have a total of 11 extra skills - if only I was a rogue this would be useful!

The same thing has happened to me. I went from 2h to sword and board and back to 2h and I still have 2 of the shield skills. It seems I also have access to the beserker tree now even though I used my 2 extra tree points on templar and reaver.

Yeah same here - ended up with all 3 warrior specs.  When you use a Makers Sigh it gives you all the points you've spent but doesn't erase all of the skills or specialisations that you had in effect giving you some free points.
I've only heard of this happening on warriors so far - more likely to respec given the lack of a single good 2 handed weapon (to be fair the 1H ones aren't up to much either).

I've had the same problem on my rogue, so it's definitely not limited to just Warriors. Normally I wouldn't complain, but I ended up having too many points to allocate, and auto-level wasn't allocating most of them.

I used a Maker's Sigh to redistribute a Rogue. I wanted to remove the default Miasmic Flask and Armistice that I couldn't remember choosing. The Flask has gone but Armistice keeps reappearing. I tested another couple of redistributions and Armistice keeps coming back and counts every time as an additional point.

Had the same thing happen, it seems to have something to do with having custom tactics setups- the only skills I keep are ones that I incorporated myself into the list- if you clear the tactics before respeccing the problem seems to be avoided.

This makes sense - although It didn't happen on merril when I respecced her to full blood mage.

Just reloaded what I thought was a fixed save, only to find out its still screwed.

Seems once it happens theres no fixing it

EDIT=although this is clutching at straws, the talents that stick also correspond to ones that I choose during Anders quest refering to the "Tranquil Solution", where he inexplicably gained the Vengeance talent.

EDIT2=just went back to a save before that quest and still the glitch, gotta say bioware Im really dissappointed in how bug ridden this game is
