Played it on PC, and overall, I'd definitely say yes.
Wait, allow me to consult my brain trust.

Yeah, we're in agreement.

N/A (have yet to play it)
If I was doing this survey I'd politely request the following information:
1) Fans Age
2) How they scored(0-10 pts) ME1 and ME2.
3) If they found DA:O difficult.
4) Which platform they prefer.
That should imo give you some fine data.
And now some funky music: www.youtube.com/watch
My answer: Yes I think it's an improvement. Platform: 360.
1. 33
2. ME1 = 9; ME2 = 7.
3. No, I didn't find DAO difficult. Tedious, yes (in terms of gameplay), difficult no.
4. I have a preference for 360, but also play DAO and ME1 on mac as well as 360.

I've by far not completed it yet, but so far I miss some features, I liked a lot in DA:O. I think some crafting, traps and also a tactical overview add to the complexity and positive gameplay experience. The completely voiced player character is a plus, which I also liked in Mass Effect series.
But when it comes to direct comparison... one thing so far almost stopped me from playing after the story even started: The drastic changes in the artwork.

The darkspawn in DA:O look much more like corrupted mortals than the more or less skeleton like darkspawn in DA2. If the Qunari were supposed to be horned, why not in DA:O?? So, partially this kind of is a real break with DA:O. It seems, the whole universe was changed. Why? More towards mainsteam undead looking undead? More spectacular and extraordinary looking Qunari, maybe to make it seem more fitting to them becoming Ogres when corrupted? Hey, to me these changes feel almost gamebreaking the atmosphere.
PC: (especially missing the isometric view)
So far: Divided opinion. NOT REALLY an improvement so far.
