Maybe i am totally wrong here, but from what ive read in the wiki and seen in the toolset there isnt any way to create a new map, only to use a preset map, something that looks odd to me deu to the fact that it could have been done in neverwinters nights editor.
Is there a way to build a totally fresh map in the toolset?

Depends what you mean by "map" but the short answer in both cases is "yes". If you mean "map" as in level/area then you use the level and area editors. If you mean "map" as in world map then you would have to create it in an external art package and prepare it using the material and map editors.

Check my tutorial here:

File > New > Level. When you export a Level you can use it as the layout of an Area.

Dragon Age Modding Terms:
  • Level - A Level is an art asset, a static shell.  Whether interior or exterior, a Level file is never directly experienced by the player, and must have a 'Post Local' operation done to it for it to be usable by Areas.
  • Area - An Area is where the player actually adventures.  When you create an area you must specify a layout which is a Level that has been posted to the database.
  • Map - A map refers to the overland map with the clickable icons.  This is the travel screen in the main campaign.
  • Module - A module is a container of sorts.  In order for a player to play your custom content, you must assign it to a module.  Modules can be 'Add-Ins' which expend existing modules, including the main campaign, or they can be campaigns that are completely separate from the main one.

Thank you so much, it is so different from what i was used to in neverwinter and warcraft3, so much to learn, but it seems a very nice toolset.

Im learning it in baby steps :)
