In DA:O and in DA 2's "prologue", I thought that Lothering was completely destroyed.
But I guess not. You get letters from Barlin and other people. What did they do? Hide in Dane's Refuge or the Chantry and the Darkspawn just forgot to knock?
so I guess they weren't as thorough in destroying Lothering as I thought

Barlin showed those beasties what was what.

Lothering was destroyed but that doesn't mean all the residents just hung out in the town square waiting the slaughter to begin...

I realized that after I made this topic. But it just seemed like, at least in Origins, that Barlin planned on staying.
