It's a fun game, yet feels incomplete. I feel more like they left out few things deliberately to sell DLC.
It would be worth waiting for complete pack to go on a sale.

I do that with every game that hits retail with few things left out. It's just not worth my time to wrestle with developers on the forum to get their job done. I just didn't expect Black Isle to do the same thing after so many great RPGs.

I rest my case.
Please stop spamming and  trying to dereail the thread.

To OP, I recommend trying out the demo first, it gives you a good example of the combat and first parts of the story.

I am 10+ hours into the game as it is just as good as DA1 even with the lack of zoom and console UI.

I do not understand the trolling here.

Skip it. Its really bad. Stick to DA:O and hope/pray that DA3 is direct sequel to DA1 (DA:O UE)

Yea, skip one of the greatest games of this year and a better game than the original.

Skip a fantastic combat system.
Skip some of the best characters.
Skip a unique TT-like plot.
Skip a bridging to the rest of the franchise.
Skip a hugely entertaining product that grabbed me more than DA:O ever could.

Skip all that, because clearly it sucks...

-hurrdurr, press R to win
-hurp durp, im hungry. can i be a dragon too bby?
-kirkwall: side quest stories.
-find random item, walk to the arrow indicated on your map. epic!
-the main story can be summed up in three sentences. if you think im trolling, go read the plot on wikipedia, it's literally summed up in three sentences.

inb4 my post is called out as invalid because of the lack of capitol letters.

-in my whole DA2 playthrough I used R like 20-30 times?
-wha-?
-side quests that IMPACT main story
-I can say the same thing for every RPG
-DA:O sum up: "Some weird orcs looking fellas lead by a dragon invaded random country#563 and you got betrayed in the process by random general#635. Raise an army, boot his ass from throne and defeat the dragon."

See what I did there?

I agree Mesina2, the side quests all felt signifant (except a few to kill gangs in Lowtown that got repetitive, but you'll have that).  What else would you do with items for quests? Do a ritual on it and then consume it to complete your quest, what do you expet HJudge? And I agree Mesina2 about your Origins summary, it's just a simple story of raising an army to kill a "bad guy". DA2's story, in my opinion is far superior because it's not about 'taking down a bad guy' like most games/RPGs are.

I would buy it. But it's not worth the rush IMO. Get the ultimate edition whenever that rolls out. It's ok/good not great.

Really now? Really? Can't believe some people...

Excuse me?

Do you have something to say, or do you always indirectly refer to somebody you quote as "some people" and then not say what you have to say?

Someone looks like they need to be spoonfed.
Yes, I mean you.

And what in the heck is that supposed to mean? Do you always make personal attacks and be rude to people you don't know? Your parents didn't teach you any better I'm assuming? Oh well, good thing there is a report button.

thats it hit the report button, and highlight how you were the first to become personally beligerant ;)

if they read what you started its you that gets the warning not him

Oh yes my mighty master, I will do as you obey since clearly you have control over me, who is a sentient being.
Derail this thread? All my posts are relative to the OPs proposed question, and about if he should skip purchasing it or not.  The rest are replies to posts made quoting my appropriate replies. The only one I see attempting to derail this thread is you, by making personal attacks and acting elitist.

Ok, I got ticked off by what a troll said by quoting my reply. I am entitled to Freedom of Speech in the country I am from, I don't know enough about you to say you have the same.  I was expressing how I felt, although I agree I was being a bit aggressive but only because somebody ticked me off.  If I said it calmer it would have been the same, I was just making a legit argument and I was the one that was personally attacked.

Sorry you misunderstood. <3

What? How did I attack you in the slightest? I only said I don't know if you have it simply because I don't know where you're from, and I didn't want to assume you were from some place where there was because you might take offense from my assumption.  Can you help me understand how you felt I attacked you?  I was trying to be nice to you, and you reply calling me an elitist and a spammer and threatening to report me. May the Maker guide us all.

My opinion is B skip this horrible game. Furthermore I would be wary of ever pre ordering another bioware game. Since they like to "streamline" aka cut features from games and dumb them down.

I certainly wouldnt pay full price for it. Wait for the bargain bins. Unless you like a "streamlined" consoley game. In which case itll be one of the best of those youve played.

Although personally I am enjoying it so far, I would agree with others that tell you, if you're that unsure, rent it first and then decide. Do NOT let others opinions, positive or negative, decide for you.

Just buy the game. For god's sake. If you don't have the cash for it, then the question is moot. If you do have the cash for it, then trust your own bloody judgement.

It's a decent game, bogged down by endless boring combat, and several cut corners.  I really regret pre-ordering, and wish I'd waited for the inevitable price drop.  It's not worth $60.00.  Not even close.  At $20-$30, you'll feel much better about your purchase.

The plot's a little... er...  I liked the characters, but I really wish I'd been able to get to know them better.  On a decent development schedule, with a chance at more and better writing, and with non-recycled levels, this might have been able to touch ME 2's brilliance.  As it is, the lack of polish makes it kind of frustrating.   It feels like a huge missed opportunity.

It doesn't really satisfy as a hack'n'slash, either.  I'm kind of fond of the Dungeon Siege series, for example, and the combat is much better in both games and their related expansions.  Torchlight's combat amused me more, to be honest.

If you're not terribly short on money and time, I think you should buy the game and play through it. Unless you delve too much into how you would have wanted the game to be, and silly expectations like that, the chance is that you'll find it a decent enough gaming experience. Just set your mind to zero and accept the developers choices.
It's not DA:O. It's a 'modern' game (in mostly a negative sense). But the only really bad thing about it, is that it's the game we get instead of the game many of us had hoped we would get. I think that's why so many are so angry.

Give it a chance, if you're uneasy about it wait for a price drop.

But you shouldn't let other people's judgments on it affect you. If you want my advice, stop visiting these forums until you've played it for yourself.

Definitely give it a chance...people get so dramatic and have such high hopes about sequels to great games. It isn't Origins, but that doesn't mean it is terrible, just different. I personally liked Origins better but there are some aspects of this game that I like better too. Overall it is still a game that is lots of fun and entertainment...would be a shame to skip it because of negative opinions in a forum, which usually go hand in hand anyway.

One gripe, are they ever going to fix the character walking animations? In the cutscenes they all walk around like they've got a board up their butt!

Ok so Dragon Age 2 is not nearly as good as Dragon Age Origins.

But guys, seriously. Let me ask you a VERY honest question. Total and 100% honesty.

Should I skip Dragon Age 2 and wait for Dragon Age 3? SHould I pretend that Dragon Age 2 never happened or should I give it a chance?

a) give it a chance

B) skip this horrible piece of sh*t game

Be honset.

unfortuantely DA 2 is nothing to do with DAO story. even you play as totally different character. it's not Grey warden but Hawke.so DA 2 is totally different game which is too bad. I don't understand why Bioware ruined this game so much. they could do better than this. well, too late. I suggest that you skip this game if you can. seriously. you'd better get 'the witcher 2'.
