I find it's a lot harder for me to be disappointed with any game when I get the Gold/Platinum/Ultimate edition on Steam for half price or less. 

Also, it's a single player game, so it's not like you have to worry about servers turning to ghost towns within a couple months. It's only going to get better as you wait.

Don't skip it entirly, it is worth a play. Just make sure you wait until the price is 30$ or lower, personally it's not worth over 20$.
