I am playing DA:O now for about 40-50 hours. I am about half way through the story (as far as I can tell) and I have to say, I am amazed by what I have seen so far.
I have to say, I am by no means a fan of paused tactical combat in which you pause and issue orders. Not being in the action sort of breaks my immersion, you might say. Even if an attack is just a single click, it gives me the feeling, I am in there, actually performing as the character (which why I loved Mass Effect for letting me do that).
But although DA:Os combat (which is one of, if not the central game play element) is not really to my liking, I enjoy this game immensely. And that is due to the art and especially the writing team. The story, as well as the rich background of the universe is amazing. The dialogues are deep and funny and (the point which astonishes me the most) within uncountable dialogue I only found two instances, in which I was not given exactly the dialogue choice, I was looking for. I mean, normally you kind of know what you want to answer in a certain situation and then you pick the dialogue option that comes closest to that idea. In DA, I always find exactly what I want to express within the given options and still, there are so many others, I find myself tempted to find out the answers to all of them (you can bet I am going to play through this game over and over). Also, the presentation is flawless. I am not talking about the actual graphics, they are obviously limited within an RPG of such size and complexity, I am talking about the atmosphere, the immersion, the emotion that is created. Without spoiling anything, one event right after the end of the origin story is presented in a most spectacular fashion. But it's also the little things like character movements in conversations, the voice acting, musical score, etc., it just fits all together.
Anyway, just wanted to give kudos to the developers (and especially the writers for the trick they pulled of with the dialogue options). You have created an amazing game, which even someone like me, who doesn't like the actual mechanics that much, loves to play. Thanks for that.
