So how would I ever get Bethany to survive the Deep Roads if I play as a rogue, especially an archer? My party would consist of Bethany, Anders, and Varric, 2 archers and 2 mages, and no tank. Love the game so far, but this is a really poor design choice. It seems sort of like this decision gives an unfair advantage to warriors, who could tank themselves, and not have to worry about bringing 2 mages and a rogue. As it is, I am forced to choose between Bethany going to the circle or dying if I want to survive the Deep Roads without absurd amounts of reloads and kiting.

The barriers in the Arcane magic category do increase survivability significantly, I'm not sure if you can get the upgrade that gives the barrier affect to the entire party at any level you can get to in act 1. Hope that helps. If that fails, you can try buying all the health potions and all the potions that heal you through regeneration that you can find.

I ended up making around 80 gold before deep roads, that I invested entirely in gear. I did all the quests and got all the equipment I could. So that by the time I went down there, my rogue was boss enough to tank since he had a lot of dodge boosting items and constitution. Switch Anders into healing mode. and he was using panacea combined with potion spamming and everything was really really easy.

Just remember, to kill the smaller creatures first before focusing on the bosses. And if the difficulty gets too hard, lower it to casual.

I used this exact party and class for my Deep Roads runthrough. Rain of Arrows helped tremendously (both with my archer and with Varric).
