The PC version of DA2 has a bad control problem. A party member can easily get into a state where mouse clicks are ignored for any action that needs to locate an object or game space -- let's call this stuck. The mouse can still select a control icon and or move the view around but, but things like movement, attack, loot, spell activation, etc. are just ignored. In the stuck state you can move via the W command but you remain in the stuck state. As long as you keep the stuck member selected the you stay stuck, at least in a fight. If you select another non-stuck member to control and un-pause the game, the stuck member may automatically join the fight. Now if you pause and select the formally stuck member you may find that you have control again. I do not know if disabling tactics would avoid the problem.
The problem often happens in combat if you pause and select a new member to control, if un-stuck do something and un-pause. Repeat until someone gets stuck. When my mage gets stuck I can select an area effect spell and view around to see the yellow circle somewhere but I can not move the circle or activate the spell or do anything else really.
Stuck has nothing to due with odd status like stun etc. and you can hold your stuck member selected for as long as you want while you watch the battle.
When I played the demo DA2 I had a similar problem with movement. In the official DA2 movement with several members selected works much better than in the demo but the PC mouse control problem is still is not fixed.

My game has just started doing this too. first time i managed to get normal control back, but I don't know how. It's happened several times since now, and not been able to get out of it without closing the game and running it again.

Try switching control between party members. That can fix this glitch as well.Spirit Dragon wrote...

You must fix this! Combinations are almost useless, since switching between party members is almost certain to get members stuck.
It turns out that the game can cause the stuck condition without manual switching. In chapter 3, I got stuck in the keep duel when I was bull-rushed and taunted with something like "Show me everything you've got." Since I was solo there was no way to get back control. Prior to that in a keep battle, I got stuck when moving a selected group and the parties thief gave a trap warning. In that case I eventually got back control of my mage but only after almost losing the battle. I now suspect that when the game automatically takes control of a member/combatant to do something verbal -- it is as if I manually switched control. I had become auto-stuck at other times prior to chapter 3 but I did not have any idea of the cause but it could have been a verbal intervention. Please fix this. It is fun to fight the story but no fun to fight the game bugs!

I'm getting the same problem too, but i never got it in combat, the only solution I found out to fix this is exiting the game, and thats f***ing annoying. I happened to get this problem 2 times in less than 10 min, seriously Bioware WTF!?

Whenever this has happened to me, I have fixed it by selecting a different character in my party, them selecting the first one again.

Yes JMC002 but if you are solo there is no one else to select. Also, when I reselect the first one I often find him still stuck. A battle can go very badly before the game decides that you can control the one member of the party who is the only one who can deal with the current battle problem.

I've noticed that when this happens the portrait of the character gets whitish. By simply hovering the mouse over the portrait the whitish disappear and I can control the character again.
Another annoying thing is that when I pause the game to issue commands to the characters and then unpause, one or two characters won't respond to my commands. I almost always have to issue the command, un-pause, pause, issue the command again for the characters to respond. This has been around since the release of Origin so I doubt they'll do anything about it. I also often have to click slowly, almost holding down the mouse button for the game to respond to it.

I have several issues with PC mouse / keyboard controls.
1. Sometimes when trying targeting something like enemy, you can't target anything. Untill you jump other character and back, then it works again.
2. Sometimes when trying to move character to some location by pointing in ground while in pause, it works fine, but when pause is released character should move, nothing happens. So, you have to do it again.
3. Not exactly mouse related, but UI control. Sometimes my character doesn't move after getting knock back from enemies. Like when through near wall. So, then I press after the situation keyboard "W", notthing happens, it's like character is stuck, but it isn't. Most the time it can be fixed it by jumping other character and back. How ever, few rare case, nothing help except using auto target movement, by targeting some place somewhere and let character run there. After that keyboard movement also works.
Then there is other small control issues, but they are not bugs, just design issues.
A. It's really hard to target AoE's to ground near enemies, because mouse seem to auto lock on enemies. Cursor sort of jump in enemies, like it's helping, but I wasn't trying to choose enemy, but ground near it.
B. When player prevents all movement of group members, by clicking correct icon. Sometimes longer distance or some previos attack seem to very easyly make your companions move anyway.
C. Sometimes in combat companions as not controlled by player, just stop attacking. They just stand and don't do anything. Untill player goes and give soem attack command as target enemy.
D. I have had alot of situation when I as mage are far away and enemies dies around tank (Aveline with tank tactics), even if there is still more enemies near by. Tank does run to me and I have to order it to back battle field. It's like if I'm too far, it doesn't stay in fight. Anyway the distance is too short if there is one.
PS: Those targeting issues and movement issues happen so often that it does annoy. Like every fight at least ones.

Click your own portrait; you don't need to select another player.

You don't even need to click. Just hover for a moment.
