I've gotten both to about level 11. Cant decide which is better. My warrior is more durable for sure, but on some fights it feels like I'm hacking away at a mob for ages before it finally dies. usually really armored ones. I'm only seeing hits for around 30-60 per hit. Then on my archer I've seen crits for upwards of 700 damage, but most in the 300 range, but it seems like i get overwhelmed easier.

for instance I had a much much harder time with the dragon in bone pit on my warrior than on my archer. but then one some fights where there is like 100 guys running around i tend to do better on my warrior unless i resort to the stealth/run away/pick off method on my archer.

so maybe I'm just doing something wrong with my warrior, because i  constantly see other people talking about how their 2hander is destroying everything.

anyway rambling aside i was hoping for some opinions/insight from other about the two builds

It's all on opinion, but I personally prefer playing a character with a lot of health, armor, and durability with still a decent amount of fighting power to boot. I'd go with the two-hander, but I'm sure most people on this forum will side with archer.

Right now I'm playing on Hard and I'm level 13. My hawke is a Mage and my party set up looks like this:
Tank: Aveline
Healer: Andres
DPS: Varric specced in full Bianca and a bit in Marksman
DPS: Hawke specced in full Primal and almost completing the Force Mage tree as well ( gonna go into elemental or blood mage a bit )

I've noticed that the highest hitter in my party is Hawke using Stone Fist. The stone fist spell does approximately 550 damage when it crits. Also, Chain Lightning does around 200 damage to up to 7 nearby enemies.

Even though this is so, I still find Varric a bit more useful than Hawke in that his AUTO ATTACKS do around 100-200 damage, and his Pinning Shot can do like 400 damage. Varric is in my opinion better than my Hawke because he's more consistant on the damage, where as Hawke does more burst damage but then he has to wait for cool downs and keep spamming his staff which does like 30-45 damage each hit...

I'm in the same situation as well. My Archer auto-attack crits at least 80% of the time hitting for roughly 400-900 damage. If I use Archer's Lance or Assassinate...Well then it is absolutely retarded amounts of damage. It had made Hard mode trivial at best. I don't need durability or a huge health bar when I destroy most encounters in 10-15 seconds easy.

On the other side of the coin, my 2H Warrior/Reaver is an AOE beast but his numbers on auto-attacks are shameful. I can manage to burst damage a group down quickly, use second wind to do it again but then I'm stuck with low Stamina and have to chip away at the higher armored enemies.

Am I doing something wrong? I've noticed that fights take much longer on my Warrior than when compared to my Archer. Even my Archer has some fairly powerful AOE's.

Then there is my Mage which is put to shame by both of them. (Not to mention I HATE the robes. I thought we were supposed to have some non-robe armors that don't look like reskins of the Prologue/Act 1 starter armor. I'm not counting the Champion Armor since you get that just a few hours before the game is over.)

Warriors get crit from dex just like rogues. Dex is not a main war stat, so they rely on talent passives for crit boosts. Perhaps you should work on a build that maximizes passive and guaranteed-crit-situations.

It is challenging as an archer to be level 25 and not have over 90% crit and 200% damage. I guess you could jsut not run imp precisions, or not take the final passive in assassination.

the war trees are not so easy to translate into an auto-attack lazy-style ( <3 love it).

I have to go with 2 Handed, considering I love getting in the middle of a fight, having all of the enemies trying to kill me, and then they all get sliced in half using my active abilities combined with cleave. But that's just me.
