So, it's failed. We "whiners" were right at last.

But I'm not happy at all with this. Do I have to say that many people warned developers since the first announcement of short development time, dialogue wheel, overall simplyfying looking like Mass Effect, horrible graphics and so on? We don't know any sales figures yet, but I think this game won't enjoy the same success like Mass Effect 2 or DA:O. Metacritic's and Gamerankings' scores of reviewers and gamers say for itself.

well, bioware's new production policy is an epic fail.

I dunno; they've done a bang up marketing job, it'll probably sell well. What'll be really interesting is how many people buy a potential expansion/DLC or buy DA3 after this fiasco.

DA 2 will outsell DA 1 because it is the better of the two games.

my post is entirely DA2 [and ME2] related, which are mainstream games.

Metacritic has a review score of 83, thats pretty good.
Also, like you, the OP, say yourself, we don't know salesfigures.. How you can call it failed with absolutly nothing credible to back it up is beyond me.

Based on the reviews of the game, it seems that people that hate it are more of a minority.

fail for who ?
sales are judged by pre orders and 1st weeks sales.

this is why it couldnt be a fail for EA,now the dlc might be a fail, too early to tell.
they ordered a rush release to show investors that buying out BW was a good move.

but the only real losers are the punters.

give it a few days and i can give you the figures for returns to a major retail distributor.
and if theres one thing determines fail its those figures on how many sold to returned ratio.
especially when a games sold at top whack.

ps..it also affects how many units are taken next time around.

Never did that before, but: ROFL!

Will it get better sales? Possibly. Is it the better game? Hell no.

Modern Warfare 2 got the same low scores from users, and that game failed sales wise right? The game is good, it is just not really Dragon Age 2, it is something else, something less rpgish.

we had common sense, and it followed what we were expecting; A mediocre, rushed, and barely worthy of being a sequel to a pretty darn good game.

IMO dragon age 2 didn't " fail " that much. But it's pretty sure DA:O and DA2 are not the same kind of games. So, if the community expected a dragon age origins 2, then yep, complete failures.

But DA2 do have qualities and is a game I enjoy playing. I kind of like the " cinematic plotting effect " ( meaning " game history build like a movie." ) and so, it is not a fail by itself.

I adore DA2 but I'm not sure of what you just said... completely not. And i'd prefer this game to not outsell Origins, so BioWare take time and precautions to make a very very very very awesome DA3 fusing everything great in DA2 and everything awesome in Origins, with new awesome ideas. I can wait. Just release it in 2015 (so don't forget the Back to the Future 4th wall...)

Even if DA2 just matches DAO's sales or undersells it a little, it will still be quite a bit more profitable than DAO was.

So before declaring it a failure, what's the definition of failure?

I suspect it'll sell reasonably well, as many people will buy it on the basis of DA:O, unaware of the massive change in style for DA2. The question is what happens to DA as a series after that, as my guess is it'll be pretty hard to persuade many people to purchase any more games in the franchise.

This is my opinion -- take it accordingly.

Bioware were in the right direction, but took it too far IMO. However, that doesn't make it a failure, there's so much in this game that's awesome, dwelling on what's bad is not my intent and so far -- I'm on act 3 and can't conteniue untill the weekend because my laptop is not up for the task. The elves were far from how horrible the fans described them before release.

I don't know. Maybe I'm only 16 hours into Act I still, but the game's actually pretty enjoyable so far. There is slightly less emphasis on story and more emphasis on combat this time around.

I play mostly for story, so it's not going to touch DA:O in terms of favorite games. However, it's still a decent sequel with great parallels to DA:O. Again, this is me barely scraping the surface of the game. I like it thus far.
