But I'm not happy at all with this. Do I have to say that many people warned developers since the first announcement of short development time, dialogue wheel, overall simplyfying looking like Mass Effect, horrible graphics and so on? We don't know any sales figures yet, but I think this game won't enjoy the same success like Mass Effect 2 or DA:O. Metacritic's and Gamerankings' scores of reviewers and gamers say for itself.

Personally I think the game's exceptional and the fact they were able to pull something off like it in the short time they spent creating it is quite impressive. I think it's far too early to determine whether the game has "failed" or not, but we'll simply have to wait and see what the sales figures are perhaps a few months down the line to give us some form of gauge on how successful the game actually was.

It's quite clear from your first sentence however that your opinion lacks the objectivity to take a balanced view on the game however, so it would be better for you to not have simply shot the game down as a failure since people won't take it seriously. Sorry if I came across hostile, I just wanted to get my thoughts across.

I dunno; they've done a bang up marketing job, it'll probably sell well. What'll be really interesting is how many people buy a potential expansion/DLC or buy DA3 after this fiasco.

Yeah, marketing campaign was great as usual, except with the issue of Securom that is not Securom. ^_^ I suppose it can be second Jade Empire, which isn't good for Bioware.

Metacritic has a review score of 83, thats pretty good.
Also, like
you, the OP, say yourself, we don't know salesfigures.. How you can call

it failed with absolutly nothing credible to back it up is beyond
me.Metacritic has a review score of 83, thats pretty good.

Well, we don't what will be Metacritic's final score, some reviewers gave 6 out 10, and Laidlaw was pretty dissapointed.
It
was just my opinion, and I compared scores of ME2 and DA:O, they both
can boast much higher scores from reviewers AND gamers.

Although I also have my issues with "Dragon Age II", I think its time to tone down some of the player versus player arguments. As a long time consumer of BioWare products, I am pleased with every game that I have purchased. "Dragon Age II" is just one game in BioWare's massive library, and I have found the majority of them to be very-very satisfying. All the critical arguments on both sides have merit, so I ask everyone to practice a certain amount of tolerance.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, and I welcome the diverse 'analytical debates' from both sides. After reading the recent interviews, I know BioWare will work on the failures and successes that came from this experience. Remember, "Dragon Age II" is BioWare's creation; thus, they are the writers, developers, and engineers. If what they are producing is not attractive, I suggest you buy another company's product. Once BioWare makes a decision about a possible sequel, game fixes, or expansion, you can come back to see if it is something in which you may like,

What is done is done. All we can do is move forward, and to give BioWare time to make adjustments. Raving and bickering about this game on such a level is unproductive.

If you fill a room with a bunch of 'yes' men, you will never know the truth about your product. If you fill a room with a bunch of 'no' men, you will never take risks to do something new and original. Too much of a good or bad thing is just bad. It has to be a mixture of positives and negatives.

BioWare sees what everyone has to say. Giving this (or any other) game a 90% to 100% game ranking is just foolish. In order to understand how to make your products better, the calm and creative critique will only lead to a road of success.

Relax folks. Its just a piece of software, and that can be easily fixed.

It might sell more because of good marketing and people might think it's a sequel to Origins, poor fools. Anyway it doesn't make DA2 better than Origins. For me, DA2 didn't feel like a sequel at all, didn't even fell anything like Dragon age...

DA 2 can be commercially succesfull, but otherwise forgettable like, I dunno, Jade Empire? Or maybe it will be called worse Bioware game? Also, there is a matter of trust, and influence on gamers, some games that commercially failed enter Hall of Fame, like Fallout.

Saying it's failed is an over reaction. It's disappointing as hell that it doesn't do anything better than Origins did (save for some obvious tweaks like the Loot All hotkey), but the people looking at it on it's own will see a fairly fun game.
Ideally that will get them to check out it's infinitely superior predecessor.

I adore DA2 but I'm not sure of what you just said... completely not. And i'd prefer this game to not outsell Origins, so BioWare take time and precautions to make a very very very very awesome DA3 fusing everything great in DA2 and everything awesome in Origins, with new awesome ideas. I can wait. Just release it in 2015 (so don't forget the Back to the Future 4th wall...)

  I support this hope.

If any of you read the collectors edition strategy guide interviews you will see that many of the changes they implemented came from people who played the first one. Many people on this forum complain about the changes and how the game is the worst game ever. Well I will tell anybody that the people who use the forums are in the minority. Most people who play the game probably don't even use these forums.

I agree that the game needs some work but bioware is a company that learns and adjust accordingly. Look at ME2 for example. They took too much rpg features out but they said that they will implement some of the rpg feature back. Bioware has done a great job with most of their game but companies will occasionally make a mistake.

One company that has failed to learn its lesson is Lionhead Studios with fable. They have no respect for fans of the series and fail to make a quality game. Bioware does the opposite and will most likely continue to learn and make great quality games in the future.

It's a failure in the same way ME2 was a failure. A lot of the fans who LOVED the original feel betrayed by all the changes. But guess what? We all bought the game anyway. And in the EA era, that's all that really matters.

here is an idea... why not try the game yourself? It has an average of 8.4/10 thats still a very good game.

I never understood people who act like they ahve played the game when all they ahve done is checked out a few reviews or tried a demo.

if EA or BW doesnt advertise on thier site or mags etc i will believe thier reviews.

but if they do...then its just another codswallop review that the ignorant think is true to the games quality.

Dragon Age: Origins is Bioware's best selling game of all time, screaming past the Mass Effect series in worldwide sales. I think DA2 is doing good sales wise but I am all but certain it won't do remotely as good as the original and probably won't sell nearly as many copies in the states as the Mass Effect titles.

And I think that is a good thing. It should show bioware that EA doesn't know what is best for them and that they never should have made such sweeping changes to the series. I am willing to bet that DA3 will be much more traditional. Probably not as 'old school' as DA:O, gods know that game had it's problems, but what they have done with DA2 is a travesty and game reviews (from websites and mags that haven't been bought by EA) and public reviews are significantly lower than they were for DA:O. Look at sites like G4 (5/5 for DAO, 3/5 for DA2), Metacritic (a full 10 points higher in total review scores and double the user rating) and others. DA2 just isn't remotely as good a game.

I'm not saying I didn't have issues with DA:O, but Bioware really should have known better.

I dunno, define 'failure'.

It's clearly inferior in all ways to the original. But BW didn't make it for fans of the original. BW made it as a cash-cow to sell DLC to the console casuals.

And in that, I expect it will be successful.

The ones who lose are those who want a proper RPG instead of a linear action game.

I don't understand the comment about the graphics. Origins was butt ugly. They may reuse assets (a tad too much) but at least what they have looks stellar across all platforms.

Also I liked DA2 a lot, and no amount of forum ****ing is going to change that.
